Arianne is the main antagonist of the children's book, The Mermaid of Cafur
Biography[]
Arianne is a beautiful, but cruel mermaid who rules Cafur. She has earned the fear of the people on land, as she likes nothing better than to kidnap children to serve her. She turns them into sea bass when she begins to grow tired of them.
One day, Arianne sees a farm boy named Ewan and promises him gold, jewels, and immortality if he comes to live with her. Ewan constantly refuses, but this only fuels Arianne's desire to have him. One day, she tells him of the beauty of sunrise and the sea in the evening. Unbeknownst to Evan, there is a spell on Cafur that makes it rise to the surface at sunrise on the first day of May. Ewan wakes up the next day to see the sea, and is enchanted when he sees the town of Cafur. Arianne grabs him and takes him to her castle, where she gives him ruby wine that erases all his memories of his past life, including those of his sister, Meghan, and his dog, Merlin.
After crying for a week, Meghan sets out to rescue Ewan, and the sea with gives an iron-bladed knife to her. Meghan goes to Cafur and uses the knife to free Ewan from his trance. She then turns all the sea bass back into children. Before they can escape, however, Arianne returns and uses her hair to ensnare them. She grabs Meghan to punish her, but Meghan uses her knife to turn her into a sea bass.
