Aric: I’m Master Aric. I know what you’re thinking. I semm like a 'nice' guy. A decent chap… So before yo think about testing me of disobeying my orders… Consider how much you value your liver.
~ The nameless hero and Aric first meet.

Aric is a minor antagonist in Risen 1. He was one of the warriors of the Order as well as one of the trainers of the recruits in the Monastery.

Biography[]

Aric was a warrior and the trainer of the recruits at the Monastery. Among the recruits, he was a good friend of a novice named Kato, who in turn was a boastful person. He was the best of the recruits and no one could beat him. Aric was pleased and he was even liked by the others, but they hated Kato. However, the trainer had dirty deals. Because he and Hemlar sold weed to many people in the Monastery. However, Hemlar did not want to give Aric his share of the money, so the old trainer killed him with a kitchen knife.

A nameless hero arrives at the castle after Aric kills Hemlar. He defeated the recruits and then the arrogant Kato. Aric was surprised by this and challenged the hero to a duel, but he also lost. However, the corpse was found by Inquisitor Mendoza and he wanted to know immediately who the killer was. He entrusted the nameless hero with the task of finding the killer. The hero had lucky as the Inquisitor ensured that the scene of the victim remained intact and he was able to find clues. The hero found some clues in the room. The killer's weapon was a kitchen knife, and he also found a purse and a packet of weed. Vitus, one of the mage masters of the Monastery, told the hero that exactly when he arrived, the murder took place and no one left the Monastery, so the killer did not leave the area. The motives were still lacking, but the master advised the hero to speak to Caspar, who cleaned the novices' rooms. He was reluctant at first, but eventually helped the hero. He said Hemlar was a quiet, strange figure and the most important clue is the burgleweed next to the knife. According to Carlos, quite a few people liked to smoking the weeds in the Monastery and Hemlar made several deals. However, he also told an important piece of information that Hemlar could not leave the Monastery, meaning there had to be another person in the deal who brought in the weed from outside or this person had permission to leave the Monastery. The hero also showed him the wine. At first, Carlos was suspicious because he thought Hemlar had been poisoned, but he thought it wasn't certain. One of the mages, Pallas, gave the hero a list with the names of the people who had permission to leave the Monastery. On the list were the novices in addition to Karlsen the blacksmith and Harlok the chef. The hero approached the blacksmith and showed him the bloody knife. Karlsen was very scared because he said he had sharpened this knife once and that it belonged to Harlok. The blacksmith also told him that there were really serious deals about the weeds in the Monastery. The hero thought he might have already found a killer, so he immediately approached the cook. Harlok, however, denied ever seeing the knife, but a little later he said someone had stolen it from him. In the upper quarter of the Monastery, he spoke with two student,s Enzo and Ash. Ash firmly claimed that Harlok was the killer because he was a pirate and had a good friendship with Hemlar. The hero approached the pirate cook again, who turned he was Steelberad’s pirate, but he wanted to forget the past. Then he tried to confuse him, but the hero eventually persuaded him to tell the truth. Harlok said Hemlar was an idiot because he be caught and they knew what he was doing, and that he often met someone in the cemetery about deals. The hero went to the cemetery, where the guard, Yoki, did not want to let him in. The guard behaved very suspiciously and provided some information. He said Hemlar had actually met someone in the cemetery at night and he thought he was quite sure he was a novice. The hero handed him the list and said he was absolutely sure it wasn't Enzo. The hero then went back to Caspar, who said two novices were still suspicious, Taylor and Ash. Taylor fought and quarreled with Hemlar a lot, but said he never wanted to kill him. However, he also provided important information. He said he had seen Hemlar in the cemetery late at night and that he had allegedly hidden the gold he had received from the deals in a grave. He confirmed that he had indeed met someone. The hero then questioned Ash as well. He was the most novice man, as he was the only student to have permission to enter the upper quarter and the cemetery. However, he definitely didn’t want to talk, and even attacked the hero. However, the hero defeated him and eventually spoke. He said he took a bag of weed from Hemlar, but he didn't kill him. However, he advised the hero to start selling the weed and so the killer would reveal itself. The hero did so he sold all the weed, a lot of people bought it. He then spoke to Caspar, who advised him to wait for the killer in a place where there is no one and he is sure to go there He suggested the washroom. The hero went in and took a bath.

When the hero dressed, Aric entered the hall. The hero then suspected he had the killer, but after questioning him, Aric voluntarily confessed that he had committed the murder. He said he wanted his share of the gold and wanted a new home on the island. He also made some hints that something was wrong with the Order and the island. He also said he felt remorse for his deed, but he believed there was no going back and wanted to kill the hero as well. The hero, on the other hand, defended himself and this time promised to be a much stronger opponent, defeating him a second time. However, he did not kill him. The hero partially understood why he had committed his act, but he could not hide from the consequences. However, while the hero told the truth to Vitus, Aric run off. The place was taken over by a friendly nocive William and he became the new trainer for the recruits.

Personality[]

Aric was a little arrogant but also respectful at the sime time. He really hated if someone being disrespectful to him, but whoever gave him the respect, he really taught him to fight and give normal behavior. Sometimes he talked condescendingly and arrogantly to his own apprentices, or to the hero who defeated him but did not exaggerate. After Hemlar's murder, it turns out that he really regretted his deed, but he believed he had no more and had a similar delusion as Captain Romanov that the people and the island were over.

Abilities[]

Aric was an experienced, strong swordsman, one of the great fighters of the Order. Even in the arena, the hero had a hard time defeating him. However, when it turned out he was the killer he fought in a different style. He was much faster and more aggressive, showing that he was an absolutely professional and dangerous swordsman.
