Aridea is the minor antagonist in the Witcher franchise serving as the overarching antagonist of the lesser evil being one of the stories The Last Wish. She is the second wife of King Fredefalk and the stepmother of Renfri. As Queen, Creyden wanted to get rid of and kill her stepdaughter Renfri because she was cursed by the black sun curse.
Biography[]
Before marrying Fredefalek, Fredefalek's first wife died for unknown reasons, but Aridea met her and they got married. According to Stregobor, Aridea had Nehalenia's mirror where he stated that she used the mirror for the fate of her own nation, this is how Aridea found out Renfri was a potential threat so she notified the council about it. She then recruited Stregobor, who is an expert on the Black Sun curse, to investigate whether Renfri was actually born during a black sun eclipse.
After Stregobor spied on Aridea's stepdaughter, he found that Renfri loved to torture various creatures and then attacked and hurt a servant, thus confirming that Renfri was a mutant from the Black Sun curse. After learning from Stregobor that Renfri was actually a mutant from the black sun, she decided to inform Fredefalek, but he did not want to believe it because he loved his daughter. So Aridea took drastic measures to get rid of Renfri by hiring an unknown thug to kill Renfri far from the kingdom, but the bandit instead of killing her decided to rape her, which resulted in his death because of her brooch and then she escaped.
