Arioch is a villainous protagonist in the Drakengard series, appearing as a major protagonist in the original Drakengard and a minor character in Drakengard 2 and Drakengard 3. Once an ordinary housewife, her mind was shattered following the death of her family at the hands of the Empire, causing her to turn into a cannibalistic serial killer. Going on to aid Caim and Angelus in their quest to destroy the regime, she eventually makes a pact with Undine and Salamander, gaining magical power at the cost of her fertility.
She was voiced by Megumi Hayashibara in Japanese and Michelle Ruff in English.
Personality[]
Being a far cry from the caring mother she once was, Arioch is a quiet figure obsessed with violence, striving to kill others around her out of a delusional desire of safety. Having a disturbing fixation on children, Arioch often cries out in futile search of her long-lost progeny, despite the fact she regularly indulges in the consumption of others.
Biography[]
Born in Niflheim, Arioch originally lived a simple existence with her husband and children, content in living a peaceful life without a desire for combat. However, this era of tranquility ended as the Empire sought to commit genocide against elvenkind, decimating much of their population and damaging the Forest Seal. Left to watch as her family was brutally slain, Arioch devolved into becoming a vicious killer, slaying passerby before devouring their remains. In this nightmarish quest, she has a particular fondness for children, believing that their corpses will remain safe in their womb.
Having eventually been imprisoned by the Empire in the hopes of using her as a weapon, she was eventually freed by Caim, his dragon Angelus, and their allies. Upon awakening, she found two spirits standing before them, with these spirits being Undine and Salamander. With their guidance, Arioch made a pact with the beasts in order to obtain affinity over pyrokinesis and hydrokinesis, albeit at the cost of her becoming infertile.
