The Arlong Pirates (アーロン一味 Āron Ichimi) are the main antagonists of the Arlong Park Arc in thr manga and anime series One Piece and its live-action adaptation. They are a pirate crew led by Arlong who were previously members of the Sun Pirates until the death of their leader, Fisher Tiger, and decided to dominate the human race in revenge. They settled in Cocoyashi Village for 8 years, terrorizing the villagers during that time, until the arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates.

History[]

Long before the Sun Pirates existed, Arlong's crew terrorized Fish-Man Island's residents who supported Queen Otohime's vision of peace between fishes and humans. When Fisher Tiger formed the Sun Pirates, Arlong and his men eagerly joined—but after Tiger's death and Jinbe's elevation to Warlord (which freed Arlong from Impel Down), they broke away and set their sights on the weaker East Blue.

On East Blue, Arlong's pirates demanded an exorbitant monthly tribute—100,000 berries per adult, 50,000 per child—from every village. In Cocoyasi Village, Bell-mère could only pay for her daughters, so Arlong killed her and left Nami and Nojiko orphaned. Discovering Nami's talent for cartography, Arlong forced her to become his navigator, promising to free the village if she stole 100 million berries for him. Thus began Nami's life as a thief under duress.

To flaunt their power, the crew built Arlong Park as their headquarters and bribed Captain Nezumi of the 16th Marine Branch to look the other way. Over the years, they conquered more than twenty villages, even destroying Gosa Village when its people failed to pay tribute.

As Nami neared her target sum, Arlong grew anxious about losing her skills. He exposed her secret hoard to Nezumi, who seized all her money—prompting the villagers, finally fed up, to rise up and resist. The ensuing battle saw the Straw Hat Pirates defeat Arlong's forces: Luffy personally toppled Arlong and demolished Arlong Park, liberating Cocoyasi and neighboring islands. Arlong and his surviving crew were arrested (though Hatchan escaped and later opened a takoyaki stand).

Afterward, Hody Jones and his followers tried to pick up Arlong's mantle—seeking fish-man supremacy and human subjugation—but they too were crushed by Luffy and his crew.
