~ Armin Sidran mocking his victim. |
Armin Sidran is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Terrorized". He is a religious fanatic who, along with his half-brother Luka Terzik, plans a terrorist attack, all while beating and raping Luka's fiancée Ana Kapic to force her cooperation.
He is portrayed by Thom Bishops.
Biography[]
Background[]
Sidran and his half-brother Luka Terzik are immigrants from Bosnia who settled in New York City. They are also violent religious zealots who hate Americans, Blacks, LGBT people, and women. Unlike the dimwitted, chronically unemployed Terzic, however, Sidran is intelligent and resourceful enough to pass the bar exam and make a good living as a lawyer, and also pays his half-brother's rent and bills.
When Terzic gets engaged to another Bosnian immigrant, Ana Kapic, he and Sidran begin beating, raping, and torturing her, ensuring her silence by recording the assaults and threatening to send them to her family and tell them she wanted what they did to her. Sidran eventually gets Ana pregnant, and she gives birth to a son, Ali.
Shortly before the events of the episode, Sidran and Terzik begin planning a terrorist attack on Central Park, and force Ana to participate in the planning.
"Terrorized"[]
When Ali is found alone in Central Park playing with a loaded gun, the NYPD's Special Victims Unit looks for his parents. The investigation eventually leads them to Terzik's apartment, which is full of guns, explosives, and jihadist propaganda, and they fear that a terrorist attack is imminent.
After uncovering Sidran's payments to Terzik, SVU Lieutenant Olivia Benson deduces that he is involved in the planned attack, so she sends Detectives Fin Tutuola and Dominick Carisi Jr. to his office. Sidran says he does not know where Terzik is, but when Carisi goes through his phone, he finds Terzik's number and calls him. When Terzik answers, Sidran yells that the police are on to him, and is arrested. Moments later, Terzik commits a mass shooting in Central Park, with Ana as an unwilling accomplice, that ends with police gunning him down and arresting her.
When Ana is charged with terrorism and murder, she tells Benson about the abuse she endured, and her lawyer, Rita Calhoun, defends her by saying that Sidran and Terzik had forced her to help them by threatening to kill her and Ali. Benson confronts Sidran with Ana's accusations, which he denies at first. When DNA evidence proves that he is Ali's father, however, he dismisses Ana as "a terrorist and a tramp". He then sues Ana for custody of Ali.
Eventually, however, Benson, Calhoun, and Assistant District Attorney Rafael Barba get Ana to give them evidence of Sidran's guilt in both the rapes and the terrorist attack, in exchange for a sentence of 20 years in prison and assurances that Ali will be kept safe from his father. Benson and her detectives go to Sidran's apartment to arrest him, but they find that the FBI has already taken him into custody for conspiring with al-Qaeda members in Afghanistan. One of the FBI agents tells Benson that Sidran will be taken to "a very special, very secure hotel" - most likely, a Supermax prison - for the rest of his life.
