Arnvald is a supporting antagonist in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt serving as the secondary antagonist of the Skellige arc. He is a courtier of the an Craite clan which helped Birna so that her son could take the throne of Skellige.
Biography[]
Arnvald was a courtier on Skellige who spent much of his time at Kear Trolde Castle serving Clan an Craite. When one of the Seneschals Arnvald took over his duties, he became irreplaceable in Kaer Trolde in recent years.
After the death of the previous king of Skellige, Bran Tuirseach, as well as his funeral, Crach an Craite decided to organize his posthumous feast in Kaer Trolde, where they will choose candidates for the king of Skellige. Although Arnavald served the an Craite clan for many years, he did not believe that Crach's children, Cerys and Hjalmar, could responsibly rule Skellige. So Arnvald decided to ally himself with Birna, who is Bran's widow, so that her son Svanrige would become king of Skellige rather than Crach's children.
During King Bran's posthumous feast, Arnvald meets Geralt and her beloved Yennefer while greeting the guests, and Arnvald greets them in a polite tone. Yennefer introduced his lover to Arnvald and Geralt himself introduced Arnvald. After saying hello, Arnvald reveals to the two guests that Crach intends his son Hjalmar, who is inactive at the feast, to become king of Skellige. Arnvald also explains that Crach's daughter Cerys has a place of honor given by her father and leads them to their assigned place before bidding farewell to the deceased king. Geralt informs Arnvald that he is looking for Crach to talk to him and asks him to go to Crach. After the conversation, Crach calls Arnvald and orders him to deliver the message to Mousesack, to which he obeys his instructions and leaves.
After Hjalmar and Cerys performed admirable deeds and were sent to the ceremony along with other candidates sponsored by other jarls for the throne of Skellige in Kaer Trolde. When there is a feast in which the jarls discuss who should be the king of Skellige. Among the guests were the Vildkaarls who are part of Arnvald and Birna Bran's plan to get rid of other candidates for the throne of Skellige so that Birna's son Svanrige will be the only candidate for the throne of Skellige.
After Geralt helped Crach's children, Geralt met Arnvald again in Kear Trolde where he asked him to take him to Crach. When he sends former Bran to Kear Trolde's posthumous feast, Geralt and Arnvald meet Hjalmar and Cerys quarreling because they both want to take the throne and both go their separate ways. After the siblings' quarrel, Arnvald continued to lead Geralt to the place where Crach arrives, and after leading Geralt to Crach, Arnvald departs back to the feast.
He left in order to secretly fulfill Birna's goals of eliminating other candidates for the throne of Skellige so that her son would become the only candidate for the throne of Skellige. As instructed to carry out Birna's plan, Arnvald had already added Mardroeme mushrooms to the mead in the pantry to cause the shapeshifting Vildkaarls to take on the appearance of bears and wreak havoc on the guests of the Kear Trolde celebration in their rampage. During the terror of the Kear Trolde celebration, Geralt and other survivors managed to defeat and kill the Vildkaarls, but many people died, including most of the candidates for the throne of Skellige.
