The Ars Goetia, also referred to as The Goetia Family, are the main antagonists of the adult animated black comedy web series Helluva Boss.
They are a clan of royal Demons who are 3rd place in Hell's hierarchy, being lower ranking than the Seven Deadly Sins and the Morningstar Family but higher than the Overlords, Sinners, Hellborn, and the Imps and Hellhounds with most of them having disdain for Imps.
Background[]
The Ars Goetia is comprised of Stolas' family, his extended family, and other royals with them seemingly acting as the de jure rulers of Hell. It's uncertain when the clan was founded although it can be said that it was brought into existence shortly after Hell was created with its members being seen as deities and being worshipped by humans. Due to the hierarchy imposed by either Lucifer or Heaven, the Goetia have bigoted views on Imps and other Demons they deem as beneath them with them treating them as objects than actual people with few exceptions.
Trivia[]
- Most members of the Goetia seen in the show are based on various birds. Stolas, Octavia and Paimon are based on owls (the last one could also be a raven). Stella and Andrealphus are based on peafowl. And the last prominent member, Vassago looks to be based on a parrot while Asmodeus appears similarly to a rooster.
- The Goetia, Vassago first appeared in the Hazbin Hotel pilot as a member of the Overlords along with another Goetia looking demon who has a theatre motif. The former may be retconned into only being a Goetia which may or may not also be the case for the latter although this remains to be seen.
- They are based on the actual mythological group of demons of the same name although the Goetia seen in the Hellaverse are mostly based off birds in terms of design although the trailer for the newest episodes shows that there are members who resemble other animals.
