Jean Degaré Fromage, better known as Artful and The Fraud, is a playable killer and major antagonist in the 2025 Roblox multiplayer asymmetrical horror game Die of Death.
Artful is a French magician born with a natural connection to magic. Using his innate talents, he became a magician with the purpose to entertain, quickly garnering fame and success. However, following a particularly underwhelming performance which caused the audience to throw banana peels at him, Artful would lose his temper. In a fit of rage, he slaughtered the entire audience.
Appearance[]
Artful is a regular Civilian donning copious amounts of white make-up. He is dressed in sharp formal attire consisting of a long-sleeved white shirt, a black tie, and a matching vest, pants and gloves, alongside a black hat. He covers half of his face with a Phantom of the Opera-esque black mask.
Personality[]
Not much is known about Artful's personality, but he is shown to be very short-tempered at times and narcissistic to the point of violence as evidenced by the incident).
Biography[]
Artful was born France, as the youngest child of an unnamed family, having two older brothers. His family owned a business which was primarily focused in construction, which Artful was originally going to take over. Artful was also linked to magic since birth, and knew how to do magic tricks.
Eventually, Artful became a construction worker, but he was involved in an accident that resulted in him getting a paid leave. Artful would study magic during his free time, and would eventually learn to make actual magic instead of just mere tricks, leading to him becoming the famous magician he was known for.
Artful had a #1 fan named Lizzy, who became a regular at his performances, and subsequently recognizable to him in the crowds. Lizzy also interacted with Artful consistently after each show, and even gifted him a teddy bear.
Artful's life took a complete turn when one of his performances went particularly badly. He was absolutely pelted with banana peels, causing him to descend into a fit of endless rage where he slaughtered all of the audience, including Lizzy. This event would result in Artful living the rest of his life as a criminal on the run, alongside carrying the guilt of having murdered Lizzy. Due to being on the run, he also had to release his pet goldfish, Goldie, in a pond at a local park.

In the 2024 Roblox asymmetrical horror game FORSAKEN, Artful appears as a playable skin for one of the killers, Noli, who, alongside Devesto, was added as a collaboration with Die of Death. He retains his appearance from Die of Death, taking the form of an average Civilian in a formal attire and a black hat, this time with a white ribbon, his face covered by his signature mask. Noli's void star is replaced by Artful's wand, with references to his music box in certain animations.
