Arthur is the main antagonist of the first season of the mystery horror YouTube Original series, Escape The Night, created by Joey Graceffa.
He is the butler of The Estate, who is revealed to be the servant of The Evil and the true mastermind of the events within the first season.
Arthur is played by Paul Chirico. In-costume scenes as The Masked Figure were also portrayed by Paul Chirico.
Personality[]
Arthur initially appears as a quiet, yet friendly individual. However, it’s revealed that Arthur is a sadistic con man who enjoys playing games with peoples lives, including his ex wife. When he discovers the Evil in the Estate, Arthur shows to be interested using it to continue his games of murdering others, and so he orchestrated the events in the Estate to keep playing his games.
Biography[]
Before the events of the story, Arthur was a “confidence man” who proudly enjoyed playing games with peoples lives, which included murdered his wife with a poison drink during their anniversary. One day, growing bored of his regular games, he discovered The Evil within the mysterious estate, and feigned loyalty to it so he can use the Evil for his own fun. To that end, Arthur kidnapped and imprisoned his own brother, keeping him tied up in a cellar.
Arthur had helped several individuals commit horrific crimes, which included a scientist named Dennis Mann murder 2 college students with an Ungodly Machine to create a monster; as well as helping a deranged serial killer Calvin, while getting them to hide away all the artifacts. he had managed to pick off the several other owners within the estate, trapping their souls inside.
After Joey Graceffa inherited the house, Arthur presented himself as a very polite head of staff when Joey invited 10 of his Youtuber friends to the Estate. However, he managed to strand everyone as he secretly poisoned Shane, a member of the Society Against Evil, and pretended to help the group into finding the artifacts, which caused the deaths of many of the YouTuber’s through various means. After he is revealed to be the true culprit by the former owner, Vincent, he manages to kidnap Joey, Oli, and Eva, the remaining survivors. Taunting them about his plans, he had them chained to the attic with a deranged man, having used a potion in them that would turn them into loyal servants when the sun rises up.
Joey, Eva, and Oli escape and discover that Arthur’s brother is hidden inside the basement, and thus they sneak around the house as Arthur, as well Mary and Marvin search around for them, with Arthur berating them to find the trio and kill them. Eventually, the three manage to find and free Arthur’s brother, who uses a hook to murder both Mary and Marvin out of revenge. He and Arthur have a stand off where Arthur shoots twice at his brother, before his brother stabs him in the leg with a hook. He then proceeds to use his dropped gun to shoot Arthur, killing him instantly as he falls dead into the pool, and his brother walking out of the grounds free.
