Ascot is an antagonist and later supporting character in Magic Knight Rayearth.
In the original Japanese, Ascot was voiced by Minami Takayama. In the English dub, he was voiced by Mona Marshall.
Biography[]
Ascot is a summoner whose monsters, which he considered his friends, were ostracized by villagers despite their peaceful nature. At an unknown point before the story, Ascot was recruited by Zagato, who offered him a safe haven for his friends in exchange for serving him.
After Alcyone's failure to kill the Knights, Ascot volunteers his services. Ascot confronts the Knights and sicks his monsters on Hikaru and Fuu, which draws Umi's ire. After being forced to call off his remaining monsters, Ascot explains to Umi that he was serving Zagato for the sake of his friends. Umi literally slaps some sense into him, explaining that if Ascot truly wants to help his friends, he has to stand up for them and not order them to cause destruction. Afterwards, Ascot apologizes to the Knights and defects from Zagato.
In the anime, Ascot makes several attempts on the Knights' lives before his confrontation with Umi. After the Knights return to the smith Presea's house, Ascot sends his monster Atalante after them. The Knights use their newly forged weapons to slay the monster, but not before Presea dies due to the monster's destruction of her home. After the Knights set out to find the Rune Gods, Ascot kidnaps the swordsman Ferio to lure them into the desert, where another monster of his, Pajero, lies in wait. Pajero is then slain by Fuu. As the Knights continue their journey, Ascot sends another of his monsters, Vigor, to get the Knights' guard down with a "wounded gazelle" gambit. Although it works at first, Hikaru manages to slay the beast. In another instance, Ascot is tricked by Alcyone into letting her power up another of his monsters, and he ends up being frozen. Meanwhile, the monster is slain by Umi. It is after this that the aforementioned confrontation at the shrine occurs. Once Ascot changes his ways, he tries to convince Caldina to stop going after the Knights, and later defects along with her.
After the Knights return to a crumbling Cephiro, it's revealed that not only has Ascot found a home where his friends could be accepted, but that he has grown up in every sense of the phrase in the hopes of impressing Umi.
