~ Asera taunting Ryas of her plan to destroy the Sundom. |
Asera is a minor antagonist in the 2022 video game Horizon Forbidden West and the main antagonist of the 2023 spin-off video game Horizon Call of the Mountain.
She is the leader of the rebel Oseram group known as the Sons of Prometheus, a group of rogue Oseram mercenaries who escaped after Dervahl's failure in taking over Meridian that contributed to his capture.
Asera would later strike a deal with Sylens to form the Sons of Prometheus, along with Regalla and her Rebels, where she and the Prometheus' members would supply the rebels with machine overrides to prepare for the assault of the Far Zenith base, unaware of what Sylens' true plans truly are.
Asera is voiced by Yaani King.
Background[]
Being the first female Oseram tribeswoman to own a forge in a highly patriarchal Oseram society, her achievements are often remarkable.
Red Raids and Dervahl's Treachery[]
Asera was a member of Dervahl's band of freebooters that fought back against the Carja invaders during the Red Raids. She was his closest confidante and second-in-command. Ersa, a fellow freebooter, was arrested and carried to Meridian during a raid on a Carja convoy delivering Oseram prisoners to the Sundom.
Asera was among those who suspected Ersa of negotiating a bargain with the Carja to sell the freebooters out after her escape and return to the Claim. Prince Avad arrived to the freebooter camp two years later to form an alliance with the Oseram and put an end to the Red Raids for good. Dervahl seemed to accept the offer, but later that night he plotted with Asera to destroy Meridian and exterminate the Carja.
Erend overheard them and passed the information on to Ersa and Avad. To keep Dervahl from endangering the partnership, the allies killed him and arrested his loyalists, including Asera herself. She was held captive for an unknown period of time, and appears to have supported Dervahl in his attempt to destroy Meridian a few years later.
Tallnecks[]
During the events of Call of the Mountain, Asera and her group of rogue Oseram mercenaries have set up an attack on Sundom once again, this time by overriding two Tallnecks within an Old One ruin, Devil's Anger, using an overriding device, in a similar liking to Sylens' own lance. Asera and her Oseram unit would soon plant machine lures on it, in order to lure adjacent machines beside it for her preemptive attack against the Carja.
However, the former Shadow Carja warrior known as Ryas would soon proceed to hunt down the overridden Tallnecks by causing it to collide amongst one another, leading it to crash within the cliff.
Final Attack on the Sundom and Escape[]
Asera escaped the Tallneck crash site unscathed, who would later be finally seen plotting her final attack on Sundom by sending a Fireclaw to kill Ryas, as revenge for thwarting her plans, while attempting to plant a bomb in a wooden platform, in a last-ditch effort to destroy the settlement, once and for all. However, in spite of her efforts, the Fireclaw was soon destroyed by Ryas before she soon confronted the ex-Shadow Carja warrior.
The platform soon collapsed as Asera was seen clinging onto a piece of it. She later fell down below the ground, causing her to be supposedly killed from the fall.
Foundation of the Sons of Prometheus[]
After Dervahl's arrest, which followed the failure of his scheme to destroy Meridian, as well as Asera's failure, she took command of the ragtag remnants of Dervahl's supporters. Asera utilised the knowledge she received from Sylens, who gave her with the necessary technology she needed to override machines.
This led to the reformation of her ragtag supporters into the Sons of Prometheus, a group dedicated to eliminating the Carja and taking vengeance on the Red Raids. Regalla's Rebels, another faction seeking vengeance against the Carja, also received the overriding technology, and would soon bolster their army of machines to take over the Tenakth and defeat their mortal enemies.
However, Aloy, whom Asera had set a kill order on, waylaid their Rebel Camps one by one, and subsequently foiling their operations. She also threatened to punch any Son of Prometheus members in the neck if they called Aloy "Champion" or "Savior" in front of her, and she told them to grab the huntress' Focus so they might have some influence over Sylens.
Defeat and Death[]
Erend is able to extract information about a site named First Forge, an ancient ruin, from a Sons of Prometheus agent's Focus. He tells Aloy about it, and the two of them travel to the said Rebel Camp. They fight off and kill Asera's troops once inside before following her through a massive subterranean tunnel, dodging her numerous booby traps.
Aloy and Erend, along with two rebel Clawstriders, are forced to face Asera in a clearing outside the cave after finally catching up to her. Despite her brave and valiant efforts, Asera finally succumbed to the two. Erend gathered a part of her armour and returned it to the Base, while Aloy took her bow.
Personality[]
Asera is a known misandrist, due to her upbringing in the patriarchal Oseram society. She often shows deep and severe resentment towards her father, as a result.
