Ash Crimson is one of the main protagonists in SNK Playmore's The King of Fighters franchise. First appearing in The King of Fighters 2003, Ash appears is the main protagonist of the "Tales of Ash Saga" and a major character in the "Shun'ei Saga". He is a descendant of the malevolent deity Saiki, whom he seeks to stop.
In Japanese, he has been voiced by Sōnosuke Nagashiro in all appearances. In English, he was voiced by Peter Von Gomm in The King of Fighters XII and Duke Clement in The King of Fighters: Another Day.
Biography[]
Raised in France, Ash grew up alongside the heiress of the Blanctorche family, Elisabeth Blanctorche.
Tales of Ash[]
At some unknown point in time, he left the Blanctorche household and entered in King of Fighters tournament during the events of The King of Fighters 2003. alongside Duo Lon and Shen Woo. After the events of the tournament, Ash travels to the Orochi seal and ambushes Chizuru Kagura, beating her into unconsciousness while stealing her powers in the process. Before fleeing, he also warns Iori Yagami that he's next for his powers.
During the events of The King of Fighters XI, Ash enters the next tournament alongside Shen and newcomer Oswald. Following the tournament, Ash reveals that he has been contracted to assassinate Shen for a mysterious group and leaves his teammates behind to battle each other, a scheme that was set up prior to the tournament. Because of the strong presence of Orochi due to it's weakening seal, Iori succumbs to the Riot of the Blood and attacks his own teammates, leaving Shingo too wounded to fight in any future tournaments up to current writing. Admist the chaos, Ash appears and steals the Yasakani Jewel, but before he leaves, he is confronted by his old childhood friend Elisabeth and her team. While Elisabeth expresses anger at Ash for failing to continue with "their mission", Ash simply ignores her, flaunts his new powers, warns that Kyo is next for his quest, and leaves through the Yata Mirror.
In The King of Fighters XIII, Ash becomes a double agent for Those from the Past, joining their ranks to get close to Saiki to take his soul and end their bloodline. Despite Ash's attempts to kill him, however, Saiki manages to possess the protagonist into becoming Evil Ash. After the fusion's defeat, Saiki attempts to convince the hero to use the Time Gate to reset time and start over with their plans, but Ash refuses to do as such, allowing both himself and Saiki to be erased from time. Just before he vanishes, however, Ash apologizes to Elisabeth and surrenders his purloined artifacts to their rightful owners.
Shun'ei Saga[]
While absent in any form in The King of Fighters XIV due to being erased from existence, Nakoruru theorizes that Ash's sacrifice and the resulting time paradox allowed Verse to come into existence. After Verse's defeat, Ash's soul is among those released, eventually being found and revived by Elisabeth and Kukri.
Ash makes his playable return in The King of Fighters XV, joining forces with Elisabeth and Kukri as part of Kukri's mission to uncover more information about Dolores' revival. By this point, Ash's villainous tendencies have significantly diminished, though it is still subtly present, but in a less-threatening way.
