Ashikaga Takauji is the main antagonist of the adventure historical manga and anime series The Elusive Samurai.
He is voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi in Japanese.
Appearance[]
Ashikaga is good-looking towering imposing man with long dark hair tied back, a trimmed beard, sharp dark eyes, sharp eyebrows of an unique shape. He wears a traditional black kimono adorned with golden floral crests. Over it, he wears a dark purple haori with a gradient that transitions to teal at the bottom, with a white obi belt around his kimono at his waist, where he also sheaths his katana. His footwear are a pair of traditional Japanese Geta sandals.
Personality[]
Ashikaga Takauji is a serious individual who protrays himself as a trustworthy, and kind man, earning him respect and admiration of many. His true nature is a cold, calculating personality driven by ruthless ambition. Harboring a sociopathic nature, he sometimes manifests as terrifying hallucinations perceived by others, such as monstrous apparitions or distortions of his appearance.
He grows to despise Hōjō Tokiyuki, blaming him for his misfortunes despite having betrayed and slaughtered Tokiyuki’s family. His hatred evolves into a passionate desire for revenge, displaying a warped perspective of events and delusional self-justifications. Despite his charisma and power, Takauji is secretly indolent, preferring a life at ease and dislikes challenges. His divine power awakened an insatiable ambition, influenced by his ancestor Ietoki Ashikaga, leading him to claim everything out of selfishness.
