The Atlanteans are a mysterious and enigmatic underwater race, who first revealed their presence to humanity with a series of incidents that took place during World War II.

Technology[]

The Atlantean race appears marginally more advanced in terms of technology when compared to their human equivalents.

They possess large submarine craft, equipped with heavy cannon, which are murderously effective when deployed against human vessels.

Attempts to engage these craft using battleships and torpedo boats have proven ineffective, though it appears the Atlanteans are ill-equipped to deal with aerial attacks.

Although its exact specifications are not known, the Atlanteans also possess some form of underwater cutting technology, which they use to flood enemy ships before swarming them with boarding troops.

Atlantean warriors who have engaged surface targets wear heavy armored diving suits, utilizing a sealed fluid breathing system.

Their main weapon of attack is a harpoon or trident, which is thrown at great power and then remotely retrieved using a magnetic gauntlet worn on one hand.

History[]

The North Sea[]

During a nighttime attack in the North Sea during August 1940, a lone Atlantean craft engaged three surface vessels in combat.

The hull of the submarine U-25 was sliced through whilst the vessel was sat on the surface, recharging her batteries. The speed of this attack claiming the entire German crew with the exception of Captain Ernst Kohler and two sentries who managed to jump clear of the conning tower.

A similar technique was then deployed against the destroyer, HMS Walsall a short time later. On this occasion, cutting through the hull proved unsuccessful, and so the Atlantean craft surfaced and then battered the British vessel with its heavy weaponry.

Boarding parties from the Atlantean ship then attacked HMS Mendacious, which had arrived at the scene. In a desperate and noble act, the captain of the Q-Ship sacrificed his own ship to destroy his opponent, killing the crews of both vessels in the process.

Norway[]

In February of 1943, another Atlantean vessel engaged the German 8th S-Boat flotilla in the waters just off the island of Karmoy.

Surfacing amidst the S-boats, hidden in fog, the Atlantean ship deployed raiding parties which swarmed two of the unsuspecting German vessels.

But Lieutenant Franck Weisser and his crew were able to repulse the attackers, hitting the Atlantean craft with a spread of torpedoes, rendering it too badly damaged to escape.

Further attacks by the 8th flotilla proved unsuccessful, the Atlantean ship's weaponry still being in working order, and able to track the incoming torpedo boats despite their high speed.

The Atlanteans were not however able to defend themselves from a further attack by JU 88 bombers and were utterly destroyed.

The Kreigsmarine would go on to designate the incident, and the study of the Atlantean survivor captured during it as Operation Krake (Kraken).
