Hear only harmony. See only glory. Speak only truth.
~ Atraxa

Atraxa is a Phyrexian angel aligned with white, blue, black, and green mana and secondary antagonist of Magic: the Gathering. Once one of Mirrodin's last symbols of hope against the invading Phyrexians, mechanical and biomechanical lifeforms who seek to perfect all life in the multiverse by corrupting them into Phyrexians, she would become captured and compleated herself. Now as one of New Phyrexia's deadliest champions, she would spread Phyrexia's influence to the plane of Capenna during New Phyrexia's invasion of the multiverse.

In Smite, she was voiced by Kayleigh McKee, who also voiced Testament in Guilty Gear Strive and Scarab in Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake.

Biography[]

Compleation[]

Before becoming a Phyrexian, Atraxa was an angel fighting with the Mirran resistance against the growing Phyrexian threat. She proved to be a useful ally against the mechanical horrors. While single-handedly protecting a Mirran retreat from a horde of Phyrexians, Atraxa was captured and taken before the praetor of the Machine Orthodoxy Elesh Norn. Admiring her tenacity, Norn gifted the angel perfection through compleation and offered to let the other praetors contribute as well. While Urabrask declined, Jin-Gitaxias, Sheoldred, and Vorinclex all agreed to help compleat the angel, demonstrating a rare moment of unity among the praetors. Atraxa became a Phyrexian horror and a symbol of New Phyrexia's unified purpose. Her compleation signified the end of Phyrexia's conquest of Mirrodin.

Phyrexia: All Will Be One[]

Atraxa

Though she represented all of the praetors, Atraxa was solely loyal to Elesh Norn as her general. It was in part because of Atraxa that most of the other Phyrexian factions submitted to Norn. While Norn was cultivating Realmbreaker, New Phyrexia's invasion tree, in the Seedcore, New Phyrexia's ninth sphere, Atraxa led the Machine Orthodoxy in her stead.

Despite being powerful in her own right, she required soldiers of her own in order to both maintain her faction and to control the others. Towards those ends, the Grand Unifier as she was now called created more Phyrexian angels to serve as her troops. Her most prized daughter was Ixhel. Atraxa dispatched her creation to kill Geth, one of the Steel Thanes. Though Ixhel succeeded in her mission, Atraxa was horrified to learn Ixhel seemed to show signs of free will when she created an abomination called Vishgraz.

Atraxa led the Machine Orthodoxy during Urabrask and Sheoldred's rebellion and her forces were seemingly victorious.

March of the Machine[]

Alternate art Atraxa

Atraxa, along with the compleated planeswalkers Ajani Goldmane and Lukka, captured Sheoldred and brought her to Elesh Norn to be executed.

Upon learning of the plane's supply of Halo, a magical substance that can resist the effects of phyresis and is harmful to the Phyrexians, Elesh Norn sent Atraxa to New Capenna on the plane of Capenna to both conquer it, destroy its Halo supply, and to prove her worth to New Phyrexia. Since Atraxa was an angel, she should be resistant to the substance. She was aware that other Phyrexian forces were on the plane, but Norn ordered her to scrap them if she found them since they failed their mission. Atraxa also was tasked with erasing all traces of a grave hidden threat.

While on New Capenna, Atraxa and her forces caused destruction across the city with many of its people becoming compleated. While reading the mind of a member of the Maestros, she discovers the source of the threat she was ordered to deal with. She traveled to one of the Maestros's art museums in order to eliminate all things considered beautiful. While looking at the paintings, Atraxa felt a mix of believing they were pointless and disgusting to having thoughts of herself before her compleation reemerge. In the end, the Grand Unifier destroyed all of the art and after seeing stone angels after leaving the museum, she decapitated them too. After learning that some of New Capenna's citizens were attempting to climb a tower, her Phyrexian thoughts returned and she continued to lead her troops unaware two beings were watching her.

Atraxa's Fall

Atraxa's Defeat

Atraxa's invasion caused members of New Capenna's crime families to set aside their differences and cooperate along with the plane's newly freed angels to defeat the Phyrexians yet again. She was lured into a trap set by high ranking members of the families. The daughter of the compleated head of the Maestros Errant detonated an explosive once the angelic horror got closer causing the buildings near Atraxa to crumble with the Phyrexian horror herself caught in the rubble.
