Atropos is the secondary antagonist of Season 5 in the TV series DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
She along with her sisters, Lachesis and Clotho/Charlie, form the three Fates, ancient Greek deities who determined the lives of mortals. Her role is to end the lives of mortals by cutting the threads of the Loom of Fate. When the Loom was stolen and scattered by Clotho, Atropos and Lachesis plotted to reassemble the Loom to remove free will from humanity.
She was portrayed by Joanna Vanderham. While impersonating John Constantine, she was portrayed by Matt Ryan.
Personality[]
Atropos always holds a cold, robotic demeanor. Though despite virtually never showing emotion, Atropos is very sadistic, with her sister Clotho stating Atropos savored every life she ended. Atropos also shows telltale signs of being a sociopath, never showing affection or care towards anyone else, woven her sisters, as demonstrated by her unflinchingly torturing Clotho.
Biography[]
Atropos is one of the three Fate sisters, being the one who responsible for ending mortal's lives by cutting the thread, with it said that she took pleasure in every life she ended. However she ended up being depowered when Clotho broke apart the Loom of Fate and scattered the pieces across the multiverse.
Attempting to find Clotho, Atropos visits a concert where her sister's old punk band, The Smell, where Atropos slaughtered everyone she came across. She interrogates the last surviving member on Clotho's whereabouts, learning Clotho had adopted the name Charlie, before killing him via having him look upon her true form that was lethal to mortals. Learning that Clotho/Charlie had joined the Legends and was travelling through time, the Fates are able to track her down using Constantine's soul token, that was in Lachesis' possession.
Atropos follows the Legends to British Columbia, 2020, where a Loom piece was hidden, She encounters the film crew of Supernatural while they were shooting the final season, where she slaughters the entire film crew. Atropos then uses her psychic-link to her sisters to bombard Clotho/Charlie with telepathic messages, before finally finding her sister and almost coerces her into rejoining the Fates by making Clotho believe she was a child. Atropos is foiled by the interference of Sara and Constantine, but Atropos proves too strong to fight. Sara and Charlie are forced to flee, while Constantine stays to hold her off with a spell, but ends up near-fatally wounded.
Atropos shapeshifts and pretends to be Constantine, in order to follow Charlie to the next Loom piece. As the Legends come across the dead Supernatural film crew, Atropos reanimates them as zombies to attack the Legends. Once Charlie retrieves the Loom piece from its hiding spot, Atropos throws her god-knives to impale Charlie, then tortures Charlie by painfully twisting the knife to make her release the Loom piece. When Sara tries to attack, Atropos uses her true form on Sara, where Sara is blown away and believed to be dead.
Acquiring the Loom ring from Charlie, Atropos uses it to track down the next Loom piece which was aboard the Waverider. So Atropos boards the time ship where she is sighted by a scared Behrad. When Behrad tries to prevent her from taking the Loom piece, Atropos notices an unconscious Zari and threatens her life to get Behrad to comply. Behrad steps aside, but then tries to attack Atropos with a Hell Sword, but is no match and ends up being killed by Atropos who cuts his life thread. Sara goes after Atropos for a rematch, where Atropos is surprised that Sara survived. While Sara is unable to kill Atropos, she is able to trick her into being flushed out the airlock, with help from Charlie who cuts off Atropos' hand wearing the Loom rings.
Later on, the Fates track down Astra who had been helping the Legends, and convince her to help steal the Waverider along with all the Loom pieces. This strands the Legends in London, to which Lachesis instructs Atropos to keep them preoccupied. So Atropos uses her Loom piece to unleash a zombie apocalypse over the entirety of Great Britain, leading to the deaths and reanimation of millions. However, Gary who stowed away on the Waverider steals and hides the Loom rings, so Atropos has Astra torture Gary to make him give the rings up. Instead, Gary successfully appeals to Astra's humanity, so Atropos kills Astra for showing weakness. The Legends end up being killed by the zombies, with only Charlie escaping through a portal onto the Waverider, to attempt to use the Loom to fix reality. Gary gives Charlie the rings, only for Atropos to execute him too.
Charlie submits to her sisters in order to use the Loom as a Fate to save the Legends. The Fates alter reality and create "Loomworld", their perceived utopia devoid of freewill and choice. Clotho manages to spare the Legends in this reality, by having them exist in a TV universe. Atropos runs the "Historical Sanitation Department", where she forces her workers to scrub history's records of all signs of rebellion or individualism. She also tended to kill people on a whim, causing them to drop dead on the spot.
Eventually the Legends escape Clotho's TV world and attempt to destroy the Loom. Atropos arrives to stop them, where the ensuing fight knocks Atropos into the unstable Loom, where it explodes, killing her once and for all.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Deity physiology/Bond with the Loom of Fate: As a Greek Fate, Atropos was capable of performing supernatural feats.
