Audrey: Do you know what the definition of insanity is, Sasha? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. You cling to the old ways like a tick on a dog's ass. And look at where it's gotten us.
Sasha: You've made your point. I accept your terms.
Audrey: I think we're a little beyond that now, don't you?
Sasha: I made a mistake. You want this? You have it.
Audrey: There you go again, lacking imagination. "You, our, yours". Those are words of division, darling. And divided, we are vulnerable. But together?... "the sky is the limit". And why rent when you can own?
Sasha: No. No, no, no. No, no, no!
Audrey: We've got big plans for the Valley, cabrón. Maybe we can dig you up in a hundred years and show you what we've done with the place.
~ Audrey's introduction as she buries Sasha in concrete while stating her plans for Simi Valley.
"Viva la Valley!"
~ Audrey's motto of her real estate business.
In the end, the devil comes for everyone.
~ Audrey before she attempts to finish off Bud Jablonski.

Audrey San Fernando is the main antagonist in the 2022 action-comedy horror film, Day Shift.

She is a vampire who poses as an estate realtor, using her position to build houses for other vampires to form an army of them and is running a sunscreen-smuggling operation where she has a shipment of sun-immunity sunscreen that prevents vampires from being burnt in daylight to be sold outside the Valley to prolong the mortality of vampires. She is the archenemy of Bud Jablonski.

She was portrayed by Karla Souza.

Personality[]

Audrey is a fiercely cunning, dexterous vampire who wishes to restore the reign of vampires, managing a sturdy operation on smuggling sun-immunity sunscreen and delve into society as a realtor without his true origins being shown. Believing she could bring forth a new age, Audrey best suits herself as professional and charismatic, but at the same time, ruthless when necessary when it comes to negotiating with other vampires and is willing to resort to threatening uses that'll turn to her favor. Be it a human or a vampire, Audrey has no qualms killing anyone who stands in her way, especially her own brethren, should they refuse her deals or simply disobey her. Part of her can be twisted and a bit of a sadist, openly announcing her intentions to harm Bud's family in the worst way possible; turning his daughter into a vampire and forcing her to drink her mother's blood. She can also tend to be rude, correcting Jocelyn's statement of Bud being her ex-husband than being together.

Despite this, Audrey is shown to be caring for her daughter, wanting to make a world where she can no longer hide and is deeply hurt by her death, which serves as the sole motivation of going after Bud Jablonski and his family, him being the sole murderer of her daughter. She's also a formidable and skilled fighter, managing to put up an intense fight against Bud without holding back her true powers. Even when falling for Bud's final resort, silver string, she remains defiant of her defeat to where she insults him one last time.

Biography[]

There's not much on her background, however, Audrey implied that she was one of the few surviving vampires of the previous order back when she and her fellow allies ruled the human world once, stating humans once built them temples out of blood and bones, before gone into hiding with their temple now buried beneath elsewhere in San Fernando Valley. Determined to restore the natural order of the vampire's reign, many thousands of years later, Audrey ended up making connections with other vampires (from Uber, Spider, Eastern, and Southern) outside both San Fernando and Simi Valleys.

Making her operations commence in California, Audrey discovered the means to prevent vampires from being burnt too much by sunlight, creating a special type of sunscreen that allows immunity for 15-20 minutes, with the ingredient said to have been from the shells of desert tortoises and illegal in over 40 countries. Becoming an real estate realtor, she promotes, buys, and builds houses for the purpose of hording and sheltering vampires, especially those outside the Valley, into servitude to her and eventually making hideouts to further expand her operations. She also has an underground production area hidden underneath Chatsworth Mall, having other vampires produce the sunscreen before having them ready for shipment. As for deliveries, she had vampires of all types be gathered and work together in the same houses she built to deliver the sunscreen. It has been noted that all vampire activity reported from Union hunters' complaints and past hunts are all traced back to Audrey's doings.

At some point, Audrey had a daughter with an unknown partner. She eventually left her behind, possibly out of fear of ever harming her daughter herself and from the moment she returned to find her, she managed to locate her but turned her into a vampire when she became an elderly woman. Another reason for her operations was to create a better world for her where she could never go back to hiding once again. She also has a sacred chamber beneath Simi Valley, one of which is a sacred room dedicated for her and another room outside of it has skeletons and bones cluttered in walls and some from a sarcophagus, heavily implied to be past victims or from the temples built from them as previously mentioned. As a year has passed, Audrey's operations and estate construction remained successful until the day Bud hunted down her daughter and decapitated her.

Audrey was first introduced chaining up a vampire named Sasha to a under-constructed pavement, leaving him to be tortured by letting the sunlight burn him for quite sometime. Making her way back under an umbrella to cover herself, Audrey mocks him of repeatedly trying to free himself with little to no effort, saying it would be insanity for him during her monologue. Despite Sasha accepting her terms to their previous deal, Audrey dismisses his pleads and comments how he lacks "imagination". Believing division invokes vulnerability, she states that vampires banding together would meant greater strength, as she put it as "the sky is the limit". Afterwards, she proceeds to have her workers dump cement all over Sasha, burying him alive and become stuck in an concreted pavement, telling him that she'll bury him out in the next hundred years to see what she and their brethren have built after they succeed, saying she's got big plans for the Valley. She then leaves by car after sealing Sasha to his fate.

On one night, Audrey drove back to her daughter's place during a phone call with one of her associates regarding Sasha, at the same time, discussing the deliveries and the housing placements. When called out for taking out Sasha and having seconds thoughts on the deal, Audrey reaffirms the fact that she is "the future" and that they own the night, even point out how her sunscreen will enable them to take over the Valley with zero hesitation of suffering burns from the sunlight. Ending the call, she threatened them that they either join her or be buried and stuck in concrete pavements like Sasha. As she and her Klaus, her right-hand man, entered the house, she would be shocked to see her daughter's corpse on the floor and tends to her severed head, covering the eyes while she mourned, tearing blood from her eyes. When Klaus found a piece of blood stained in glass during Bud's fight, Audrey takes a lick of said blood and confirms her daughter's killer by scent, hissing in anger over her loss. Vowing vengeance, she decides to track down Bud Jablonski and take away everything from him to let him know her pain. Ordering Klaus to find his whereabouts, she leaves a trail of dead roses.

Managing to locate Bud Jablonski's usual pawnbroker, Troy, she personally attacks his shop, throwing and killing his front worker at desk through the door and later decapitating another. Using her agility, she grabs hold of both Troy's hands and pierced them through a knife, stuck to the table. She then pulls out a necklace Troy made from a vampire's fang, proceeding to monologue how vampires cannot live or regenerate without their fangs, signifying what makes them a predator by nature, and how they'd lived on for a thousand lives in their lifespan. After explaining her origins and a portion of her motives, she gives Troy two choices between either he sells out information about Bud and provide her service, sparing his life or he dies. When remaining defiant, Audrey proceeds to torture him by pulling all of his teeth out until he finally sell out Bud. Once it was successfully, she kills him anyway after hearing all the info she needed on Bud and proceeds to hatch her vengeance, not before leaving a message spelling Bud's name through Troy's teeth.

Finding out about his family, Audrey planned ahead by implanting a mole, attacking and turning Bud's next door neighbor, Heather, into a vampire and forced her to do her bidding by telling her everything about Bud so far against her will. Managing to track down the house of Jocelyn Jablonski as seen through her estate company's pamphlets, Audrey somehow got hold of Bud's number on one afternoon when he took her daughter to her friend's birthday party, and directly threatened to make him bow before her and take his wife and daughter away for what he took from her. Already sending one of her men to assassinate Bud and capture his daughter, Paige, things escalated from Bud shooting one of them down to a series of reckless car chases. While it happened, Audrey finds herself meeting with Jocelyn, already putting her life on the line and hostage while she and her men somehow found Seth, Bud's supervisor-turned-partner, torturing him, drinking his blood before turning him into a vampire out of spite to Bud.

From the moment he and Paige got home, Audrey already has Bud on his knees while Paige is held hostage alongside her mother. She revealed to have already turned Seth after torturing him, forcing Bud to tell Jocelyn the truth about him being a vampire hunter, which she didn't buy at first until Audrey and her henchmen show off their fangs to her. She then makes it clear that she wants both Jocelyn and Paige at her grasp, then admiring the latter's bravery against her when she affectionately stroke her face, ordering her henchmen to take them away. Alone with Bud, Audrey then states her plans to turn Paige into a vampire and have her drink the blood of her mother to get even with the latter, not before knocking him out unconscious, hopefully leaving him to die at the hands of her newfound partner Seth before things simmered down between the two of them.

Taking Jocelyn and Paige to her underground chamber in one of her operation areas, Audrey bothers letting them know that they should feel honored to walk on her chamber's sacred grounds until Jocelyn talked back to her, which she is forced into a wall by Klaus and nearly choked. When Paige questioned her actions, Audrey happily responds that she had a daughter once and made it clear she wanted her to be safe out in the real world until Bud took it all away, believing it's only fair he knows the exact pain she's gone through by harming them. Audrey then taunts the fact she would simply be turning Paige into a vampire, remarking it as that "no one could ever hurt her again", and that she should thank her as a war was coming and Paige was gonna be on the "winning side" as she continued taking them further within the sacred grounds.

As Bud, Seth, Heather, and Big John made it to her smuggling area in Chatsworth Mall, with both the former and the latter making it to sacred grounds, Audrey orders Klaus to deal with them while she keeps herself busy over Jocelyn and Paige, also ensuring Bud is taken in alive to witness Paige becoming a vampire and killing her mother as promised. However, Klaus finds himself at the hands of Seth and Heather, giving Bud the chance to enter Audrey's sacred chamber. Sensing Klaus isn't doing well, she proceeds to strangle Jocelyn when she tried to fight back before throwing her to the ground until Bud came in just in time to confront her. She then drags Jocelyn and thrown her off the stairway, then rebukes Bud for his "life for a life" deal, angered over her daughter's death as pointed out. Before fighting him, she sadistically announces her intentions to kill Bud in front of Paige, then stating she'll make her drink her mother's blood and from there she'll be her "new, improved mommy", earning Paige's hatred for her, something she brushed off as "not nice".

As she and Bud began their fight, she's proven herself to be a formidable enemy as she stopped holding back on her true vampire origin, showing a portion of her true form and using every skill of her ability to pummel Bud to the ground. Continuing to thrash him around, she prepares to eat and bite him until Jocelyn pierced her through her chest with a staff, breaking it in half and throw back a powerful punch at Jocelyn, then proceeds to kick Bud aside. Preparing to kill both after having enough, Bud shoots at her, getting her attention as she manages to catch the silver bullet with her teeth and rushes to him for the kill. Unfortunately, she ended up falling for Bud's silver string trap, decapitated in seconds without noticing but remains defiant and insulted Bud, calling him a "f-cking pool boy" before dying.
