Biography[]

Early Life[]

Augusta Wilhelmine Lehrke was born on July 21st, 1878 in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Frederick William Lehrke and Amelia Fregin. She was was raised in a devout Lutheran household, and grew up to be a religious fanatic who viewed the entire world as sinful; she especially abhorred sex and saw women as instruments of the Devil.

As a young woman, she married George Gein, an alcoholic who was frequently out of work. She grew to despise him, but she reluctantly had sex with him so she could have children. She eventually bore him two sons, Henry and Ed, and indoctrinated them both with her puritanical world view by reading them Bible passages about divine retribution and preaching to them that sex was evil and women - except herself - were instruments of the Devil. She Wass particularly possessive of Ed; she forbade him to have a life outside of her, to the point that she would punish him for attempting to make any friends. By the time Ed reached adulthood, he was completely dependent upon her.

Trivia[]

  • As Ed was the inspiration for Norman Bates, Augusta was likely the inspiration for Norman's mother, Norma.
  • Her son wore her skinned face throughout the show similar to how Leatherface wore his victims faces most notably an elderly women's when Drayton brings Sally back to the house.
  • Her son hearing her voice is likely a homage to Pamela Voorhees whose son Jason Voorhees hears her voice.
