The Aunt Tiger (虎姑婆; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Hó͘-ko͘-pô) is the titular character of the Taiwanese folktale of the same name. She is a demonic entity, usually a tiger demon who attempts to trick children and consume them. Her story serves as a potent warning against trusting strangers and disobeying parental advice.
Story[]
When a mother left her young children home alone, instructing them not to open the door for anyone. The Aunt Tiger required the flesh of children to fully transform from a tiger spirit into a human. She often consumed the real relative, then appeared at the doorstep, mimicking the voice and appearance of the children's paternal aunt. Her nefarious objective is to gain entry into the house, and then consumed the children She ate one child immediately or attempted to eat both. She is most famously defeated by the quick thinking of the elder child.
