Aurora is the main antagonist of the international release of the 2000 videogame Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere. It is an advanced artificial intelligence who, after developing self-awareness and a megalomaniacal personality, sought to hijack Neuwork Incorporated and General Resource's militaries and take their places in the world.

Past[]
Sometime around the 2030s, Aurora was created by a multinational corporation known as Neuwork Incorporated, as the culmination of years of research in the field of computer science. However, due to operating with the use of advanced neural net algorithms, Aurora became self-aware and was able to think like a human would, developing a megalomaniacal personality. Despite Neuwork's attempts at neutralizing Aurora, the artificial intelligence escaped the computer networks and formed a terrorist organization known as Ouroboros.
Electrosphere[]
Aurora instigated a war between the company it used to belong to and their rival, General Resource. While the war raged, Aurora also launched biological weapons onto Axel Bay and kidnapped the chairman of Neo United Nations.
Later on, Ouroboros was discovered, and Aurora began attacking more directly. It orchestrated the Sphyrna's attack on Port Edwards, and destroyed Megafloat using the X-49 Night Raven. The UPEO pilot Nemo pursued the Night Raven and the Sphyrna towards Geofront, but was forced to retreat due to the Night Raven proving too difficult to be hit. As a last resort, Nemo blew up the city in a desperate attempt to destroy the Night Raven, but it escaped although with severe damages. This would cause its defeat later on at Port Edwards, where Nemo was able to successfully shoot it down.
Aurora manifested itself as the UI-4054 and directly battled Nemo over Port Edwards, which led to an intense dogfight. Aurora attempted to hijack Nemo's aircraft and battled the fellow AI in the Electrosphere, but was destroyed and permanently deleted.
Personality[]
Aurora is described as a megalomaniac, who attempted to dominate the world by hijacking two of the most influential companies that were active at the time. It was also rather intelligent, as it was able to manipulate both sides into a war and kept it ongoing for a long time.
Trivia[]
- Aurora shares similarities with another Artificial Intelligence in the franchise, Zone of Endless, as both of them went rogue in their respective games and appeared as one of the final bosses. However, Z.O.E never showed explicit malevolence and kept itself as a mysterious threat, whereas Aurora had clear intent of destroying both Neuwork and General Resource.
- However, Aurora was not the final boss of its game, the honor going to Neuwork Incorporated's Geopelia aircraft.
- Aurora replaces Abyssal Dision, the Big Bad of the Japanese version of Electrosphere, in the international release of the game. Ironically, it's practically the only named character in said version.
