Biography[]
Automated Unit 3947 was one of a number of automated personnel units created by the Pralor. He was found by Voyager drifting in space and inactive. Lieutenant Torres and the rest of the crew examined him and found a way to repower his control unit using modified warp plasma. When he was revived, 3947 was impressed. He explained that the Pralor were now all dead. The personnel units had formed their own society without them but had been unable to repair power units or build new ones, meaning their numbers were dwindling. He asked Voyager's help to learn how to build new units but Captain Janeway saw it as a breach of the Prime Directive and refused.
When a Pralor ship arrived to collect 3947, he stunned Torres and the transporter chief and kidnapped Torres, taking her with him to the ship. He ordered her to work to construct new power units. Torres was reluctant, but when a rescue attempt left Voyager in a shooting match with the Pralor ship that they had no chance of winning, she agreed to do as instructed to stop her ship being destroyed. She worked out that the Pralor had designed each power unit to have a unique signature that would only work in one robot. Thus, they needed to construct a unit that could be used in any robot.
Torres succeeded, managing to bring a prototype personnel unit online. At that point however, the ship came under attack from a vessel crewed by other personnel units. 3947 explained that the newcomers had been created by the Cravic. The Pralor and the Cravic had been at war and had constructed the personnel units to fight for them. When they made peace, they planned to shut down the units. Programmed to eliminate any enemy, the personnel units judged that their creators were now their enemy and killed them all, continuing the war. With the limit introduced by the builders gone, 3947 and the others now had a way to defeat the Cravic.
Horrified at what she had done, Torres destroyed the prototype unit. 3947 demanded she build another but she refused, regretfully telling him that she hadn't wanted to be his enemy. With the Pralor ship taking damage during the battle, Voyager managed to beam Torres aboard and safely leave the area as the Pralor and Cravic ships continued their battle.
