~ Avalanche Yeti to Axl, being curious about his abilities. |
Avalanche Yeti, known in Japan as Ice-Snow Yetinger, is a minor antagonist in Mega Man X8 who appears as one of the Mavericks fought as major bosses in that game. He is a New Generation Reploid who originally worked for environmental research, but after going Maverick, he decided to make the world inhabitable for humans by endangering the global ecosystem in attempt to weed them out of existence. Yeti makes his lair in the Central White stage.
His weapon, the Drift Diamond, allows him and others who wield it launch freezing diamonds forwards. Burn Rooster is weak to this weapon. Yeti himself is weak to the Thunder Dancer, which can fry his circuits, interrupting his attack pattern.
He is voiced by Youichi Sasayama in Japanese and Dave Pettitt in English.
Character Description[]
Personality[]
Like with Grizzly Slash from X4, Avalanche Yeti is a pacifist. However, after the environment's continual deterioration, this broke his caring spirit, causing him to become cynical and pessimistic, driving him to extreme measures that even he remorsefully regrets. Yeti rarely bends his ideal and belief, and does everything in his power to stand up to anyone in his way. Indeed, he didn't seem to desire conflict, instead urging the Maverick Hunters to leave him in peace at first, but eventually relented and decided to fight. He looked down on them greatly, calling them "lowly", and was disappointed by their inability to reconsider the situation. In the Japanese version, instead of this word, he negatively criticizes the Maverick Hunters for their activities as a "stupid thing".
Appearance[]
Avalanche Yeti was a tall and wide Reploid whose appearance was inspired by tales of a real yeti. He had white and ice-blue armor, vents all along his arms and back, and a pointy red nose similar to the carrot nose often seen on snowmen. With each breath, he expelled a small puff of cold air.
His Weapon[]
Avalanche Yeti wields Drift Diamonds. When X uses the weapon normally, these crystals fly forwards, freezing anything that gets in their way, and spread out at diagonal angles from the horizontal, spreading further apart the further they fly. However, he can charge the weapon, which creates five snowflakes that orbit his body, like how Yeti uses his version. The crystals can still freeze enemies. Axl can shoot one at a time from his guns, but is able to rapid-fire the weapon in an attack that he calls "Ice Gatling", based on the ice bullets that Ice-Snow can fire from his hands.
Zero is unable to use this weapon, but he has his own version, known as "Hyouryuushou", based on Yeti's uppercut attack. Here, he swings his saber while being surrounded by freezing air. Foes that touch him while he does this move will freeze, as if a Drift Diamond struck their body.
Biography[]
Avalanche Yeti was once an environmental research facility overseer, who had grown bitter and unhappy as he watched the environment deteriorate. After experiencing "enlightenment", he decided to go Maverick and planned to wipe humanity by destabilizing the global ecosystem in order to usher in the new generation Reploids under Sigma's empire. His actions caught the attention of the Maverick Hunters, who pursued him and defeated him in order to prevent his plans from going further, leading to his obvious apparent demise.
Battle[]
Avalanche Yeti uses ice-based attacks for his fight, and can be stunned with Thunder Dancers, causing him to fall on his back and resetting his attack pattern. He uses the following attacks:
- Ice Gatling: Yeti fires ice shards as bullets from his hands.
- Hyouryuushou: Yeti buries his body in snow, burrows beneath the gang, and tries to hit them from below with an uppercut.
- Drift Diamond: This is how X uses the charged variation of his version. Yeti surrounds his body with freezing diamonds and charges at the gang twice.
- Snow Eisen: Upon losing half his health, Yeti will launch a flurry of snowflakes from his back. These fall down for the rest of the fight, but have their own health, which is very little. X, Zero and Axl will be frozen solid, effectively being stunned, if one touches their body.
