Avery Duggan is a GTA Online character that was added in July 23th 2019 in the Diamond Casino and Resort update. He is a Texan petrochemical and the main antagonist of the DLC
Biography
Avery comes from a corrupt family of Texas petrochemical magnates who want to buy The Diamond Casino & Resort, but first wants to destroy it, because it will significantly reduce the value of the property and allow him to buy everything at the lowest prices.
He is a wealthy businessman who describes himself as having many investments around the world. In San Andreas, his investments primarily concern oil and gas, and he has an extremely ruthless reputation to get what he wants.
It is said that in fact, he helped the casino owners pay off their debt during construction because they fought financially. However, now I want the whole company for myself, seeing in it a waste of money and the desire to demolish the casino and rebuild the land in other ways.
He has a nephew, Thornton Duggan, who seems to be his immediate successor to a family business. They both try to get along, because Thornton is often terrified by his uncle's uncompromising scale.
In 2019, Avery Duggan and his colleagues began to trouble the newly opened Diamond Casino & Resort in Los Santos, seeking a hostile takeover of the company. The protagonist is contacted by the new casino manager, Agatha Baker, as well as the casino owner, Tao Cheng, for help in making peace with Avery and thwarting his attempts to force them into bankruptcy.
In the Casino - House Keeping, Avery pays some bandits for attacking casino customers and destroys the casino property, which in turn hurts the business. The casino head of the casino, Vincent, asks the protagonist to help him stop it, and after that they earn a lot of gratitude from Mrs. Baker.
In the mission Casino - Strong Arm Tactics, Tao agrees to meet with Avery and his nephew, Thornton, but he is so stoned when he gets there that the talks are quickly spoiling. Having lost patience, Avery orders his followers to kill Tao, the hero and translator Tao Cheng, but the three run away and go to the Pacific Bluffs Golf Club to plan the next move.
Tao, now angry, decides to hire a protagonist to thwart Avery's plans with all necessary means. In the mission Casino - Play to Win the main character destroys most Avery assets in the oil and gas industry. This prompts him to retaliate in the mission Casino - Bad Beat, when his supporters appear in the casino armed to the teeth along with assault helicopters. Thornton Duggan falls out with his uncle at the moment and arrives at the casino shortly before Avery's mercenaries to warn everyone of the impending attack. After a terrifying battle, the attack is repulsed by the hero.
Bad news does not stop there. Uncle Tao in Hong Kong contacts Mrs. Baker and tells her to sell the casino immediately because there was too much "drama" around him. Because Uncle Tao provided most of the funds for the restoration of the casino, neither Mrs Baker nor Tao can refuse him. As everyone is preparing to move their stuff and look for new jobs, Thornton suddenly reappears with the offer. He proposes to save the casino by buying them at full price from the Cheng family, which will result in the transfer of ownership. However, there is a catch. Thornton admits he will not have the money to spend unless someone kills his uncle, which will make Thornton receive a full legacy. Avery bought the La Fuente Blanca ranch just outside the city limits and they are closed there.
Once again, everyone is asking the protagonist for help, so in the casino mission - Payment, the ranch is attacked. When the battle begins, all his supporters die, Avery calls the evacuation helicopter to get him out of the area. The hero goes in pursuit and shoots a helicopter at Tao orders, killing Avery.
As a result, Tao and his translator board a private jet heading west, and Thornton becomes the proud new owner of Diamond Casino & Resort. He happily expresses his gratitude to the protagonist and his new employees for making this possible. Thornton decides that the casino will remain as it is, without significant changes (except for Vincent's fired), but says Mrs. Baker that she expects to see twice as much money as the casino earns.
