~ Lily Evans regarding Avery's personality |
Avery II is a minor antagonist in the Harry Potter series. He was a wizard, Avery's son, ordained into Slytherin at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. After graduating from Hogwarts, he became a Death Eater. He fought in several battles during the First Wizarding War. Avery did not seek out Lord Voldemort after his fall, but was forgiven, and later returned to his master. During the Second Wizarding War, Avery fought in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries with a group of Death Eaters, trying to steal a prophecy about Harry Potter. After the battle, he was imprisoned in Azkaban, but escaped in 1997. It is possible that he fought in the Battle of Hogwarts as well. After Voldemort's defeat in 1998, he was likely killed or imprisoned again in Azkaban.
He was portrayed by Richard Rosson.
Biography[]
School years[]
Avery II. was born around the late 50s and early 60s. He was a Slytherin during the time of the Marauders. At Hogwarts, he was friend with Severus Snape, Evan Rosier, Mulciber, and others. Perhaps he was well versed in the dark arts. Lily Evans, Severus' girlfriend, did not approve of his friend's dealings with these boys, which meant that they were known for their dark deeds. This is confirmed by the fact that he, along with Mulciber, "had a very evil joke" with Mary MacDonald.
First Wizarding War[]
In the 1970s, he was admitted to the Death Eaters, but was later caught by the Aurors and brought to trial as a Death Eater. However, he was able to convince everyone that he acted under the influence of the Imperius curse, and thanks to this he did not end up in Azkaban. It is also known that after the fall of Lord Voldemort, Avery did not look for him. Possibly participated in the riot at the Quidditch World Cup a year before the appearance of Voldemort, however this information has not been proven.
Second Wizarding War[]
After the resurrection of the Dark Lord, Avery appeared at the cemetery along with other Death Eaters. It is noteworthy that he is the only one whom Voldemort tortured with the Cruciatus Curse for his disloyalty. However, later, along with other Death Eaters, he was forgiven.
In 1995, Avery told his master that he could get the prophecy from the Hall of Prophecy with the help of the Imperius Curse, but this attempt failed, and Voldemort punished him for this mistake.
In 1996, he participated in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, where Malfoy paired him with Walden McNair. Following the defeat of the Death Eaters, Avery, along with the others (with the exception of Bellatrix Lestrange), was sent to Azkaban and possibly released in 1997.
Battle of Hogwarts[]
It is unknown if Avery participated in the Battle of Hogwarts. It is also unclear if he survived. Presumably he was either killed or sent to Azkaban.
Personality[]
Described as treacherous by Voldemort, with a morbid sense of humor and a fascination with Dark Magic and purity of blood by Lily Evans.
