Axel and Loco are supporting antagonists in the Pixar's 2nd full-length animated feature film, A Bug's Life. They are two Carolina grasshoppers who are part of Hopper's gang.
They were voiced by the late Jan Rabson, who also voiced Sparks in Toy Story 3, and Carlos Alazraqui respectively.
History[]
Axel and Loco are among the grasshoppers that attack the ants inside their hive after noticing that their food is missing. After Hopper terrorizes the colony and demands double the planned food, he leaves with his entire gang of grasshoppers.
We see Axel and Loco again at the secret lair of the grasshoppers which is an abandoned Mexican hat. They and a third grasshopper converse with Molt, Hopper's brother about the fact that it is useless to return to the ant island and that it puts them at risk with the rain. Loco manages to get Molt to talk about this suggestion to Hopper who enrages upon hearing it.
Panicked, his brother confesses that this is the idea Axel and Loco and Hopper goes down to see the grasshoppers claiming that they will stay here. He then goes to see Axel and Loco at the bar talking about Flik who stood up to him at the start of the film. Axel and Loco taunt saying it's just an ant and not threatening, making the gang laugh. Hopper compares the ants by using seeds which he throws one by one at Axel and Loco who reply that it doesn't hurt them. Suddenly, Hopper dumps the entire stash of seeds on them, seemingly killing them and shocking the other grasshoppers. He explains how dangerous ants are in colonies and how they can defeat the grasshopper gang. He adds that this is why they have to continue to keep them in fear in order to be able to control them. Then, all the grasshoppers fly to the ant island. Despite the incident, Axel and Loco are confirmed to have survived the grain incident as they continue to make silent cameos along with the rest of the gang, most recognizably when Flik and the Blueberries are shown sneaking up to a fake bird.
Appearances[]
Loco is the tallest of the duo, having a longer face and looking well-built while Axel is shorter with a wider head and the antenna on the left side of his head is broken in half.
