The Axis Powers, also known as the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis, are some of the main antagonists of the Call of Duty franchise,

It's a collection of enemy factions that were allied to each other during World War II; it includes but is not limited to Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and Royal Italian Army. They primarily appear in Call of Duty games set during World War II, save for Black Ops III and some other entries, which are set in completely different time periods yet feature them in one way or another.

History[]

Call of Duty[]

The Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS are the enemy faction in the first Call of Duty game, released in 2003. They fight against the Western Allied Forces, the United States Army, The British Army, and against the Soviet Red Army. The Wehrmacht Branches depicted in the game are the Heer (Army) and the Kriegsmarine (Navy), while the Waffen-SS is depicted fighting alongside the Wehrmacht in the entire game. In one of the later missions in the game, Captain Price and Sergeant Evans infiltrate the Battleship Tripitz and damage it, also fighting Kriegsmarine Troops and killing Lieutenant Commander Schmidt in the fight.

Call of Duty 2[]

The Axis Forces return in Call of Duty 2, this time, the player only fights against the Wehrmacht, including in some levels, the famous Spanish Blue Division. In the levels in North Africa, you play as a British Soldier fighting against the Afrika Korps under the command of Wehrmacht Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. In the other levels, the regular Wehrmacht and the Blue Division are the enemies in the Russian Campaign, and the 1944 Western Front, which is both from American and British Perspectives. In Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, there are other enemy Axis Units such as the Royal Italian Army and the Vichy French Army, the collaborationist military force of French founded by Nazi Germany and the Vichy French Government. The Waffen-SS also returns in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One.

Call of Duty 3[]

In Call of Duty 3, the enemy Axis Forces are the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS Divisions, 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, 2nd SS Panzer Division Das Reich, the 9th SS Panzer Division Hohenstaufen, and the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend. The Wehrmacht appear in all three of the British SAS missions and in the US Army missions, "The Island", "Mayenne Bridge, "The Forest", and in "The Mace", alongside the Waffen-SS. The Waffen-SS appear in all the other missions, including all three of the Canadian Army missions.

Call of Duty: World at War[]

The enemy Axis Forces in Call of Duty: World at War appear in three separate campaigns. The Imperial Japanese Army are the main antagonists of the US Marine Corps Campaign while the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS are the enemy factions in the Soviet Red Army Campaign. The Imperial Japanese Navy and the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service are the antagonists in the US Naval Air Force mission "Black Cats".

Call of Duty: Black Ops[]

The Wehrmacht appears only in the eight level of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Project Nova. They are the main enemy faction of the level fighting against the Soviet Red Army in Baffin Island, Canada.

Call of Duty: WWII[]

The enemy Axis Forces appear in Call of Duty: WWII as the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS Divisions, Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler (In the levels, Death Factory, and Hill 493) , and the 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division Gotz Von Berlichingen in the level (The Rhine). The Wehrmacht appear in all the levels including the levels, "Death Factory", "Hill 493", and "The Rhine", fighting alongside the Waffen-SS Troops. In one level, concentrating on the Liberation of Paris, the SS Security Intelligence Wing, the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) is an enemy force.

Call of Duty: Vanguard[]

The Nazi Party returns in Call of Duty: Vanguard as the hostile faction, while the Imperial Japanese Navy appear as the main hostile faction in the missions "The Battle of Midway" and "Numa Numa Trail".

Trivia[]

Carl Heinrich's voice actor, J. Paul Boehmer, is the multiplayer announcer for the Axis in Call of Duty: WWII.
