Azalin Rex is a powerful undead wizard from the Dungeons and Dragons multiverse. Originally from the world of Greyhawk, he was imprisoned in the realm of Darkon in Ravenloft after killing his son.
Biography[]
A tyrannical wizard king from the planet Oerth, who executed his own son for helping a group of rebels and then turned himself into a lich in order to continue his legacy. Azalin was brought to the Demiplane of Dread as a servant of Strahd Von Zarovich, before escaping to the domain of Darkon where he became its dark lord. His curse is that he can't learn any new spell and increase his power, and he's tormented by the ghost of his son, who constantly tells him that he forgives him and he should let go his soul so he can finally rest in peace. Azalin is obsessed in trying to escape from the world of Ravenloft and ressurect his son.
5th Edition[]
As of the 5th edition, much has changed for both Azalin Rex and his domain.
In concerns to the Darklord, he has mysteriously vanished. His disappearance is tied into a magical event that shook Darkon to its very foundations- the Hour of Ascension. Following this event, an unusual golden star called the "King's Tear" hangs above the entire domain. Its tie-in to the Darklord's fate- and what it truly is -remains unclear to the folk of Darkon... though, admittedly, they have more pressing concerns to handle.
Chief among their concerns is the Shroud. This Shroud is still the Mists that surround the domains of Ravenloft, but they are possessed of an intense hunger. Day by day, the borders of Darkon crumble away; as to what happens to the lands claimed by the Shroud, none can say clearly. All that is known is that any who dare enter the Shroud never return. The Shroud has also torn Darkon into four separate territories: the Jagged Coast, Lychgate, the Mistlands and Rexcrown. As the sub-domains are torn apart, three would-be inheritors strive to claim the title of Darklord- Alcio "Baron" Metus (a vampire who controls the Kargat- a team of secret police in the nation), Darcalus Rex (the spirit of Darkon's first king, slowly tainting the Eternal Order from within) and Madame Talisveri Eris (gifted liar and head of "the Family", a band of conned nobility that she has turned into a legion of psychotic killers). Regardless of who remains victorious, unless they can claim true power, it remains unclear if anything can save Darkon from being consumed... or worse.
