| ~ Poem of the Pearl Spellstone and Azari's origins. |
Azari the Devourer is a major antagonist in Hearthstone, being the overarching antagonist of the Kobolds & Catacombs expansion. A monstrously powerful Pit Lord, Azari is the creator of the Spellstones, rare gems that contain great power but come with a terrible price to wield. Rin was the first victim of this through the Amethyst Spellstone, though considering the gnome's evil nature, she was in reality anything but as she gleefully chose to serve him. He would then tempt mortals with the other stones, most of them falling to horrible fates. In time, someone would find the Ruby Spellstone, and would use the gem's power against its master. Imprisoned within The Twisting Nether, Rin has worked to free her dark master ever since.
Personality[]
The Annihilan are universally regarded as the worst of the worst when it comes to The Burning Legion. Archimonde's favored generals, they are beings of absolute sadistic, barbaric destruction and Azari is no exception. Azari arrived on Azeroth and created the Spellstones in order to tempt mortals with their power, but true to his twisted demon nature, they all came with catastrophic prices for those involved. Azari reveled in their pain and suffering as the power of the stones turned against the wielders, before ultimately feasting upon their souls. He is also exceptionally creative when it comes to the curses and misery he would inflict upon them, including but not limited to;
- Imprisoning people in unbreakable tombs after being promised great physical might if they found the stone.
- Giving people the power to fight against evil before turning themselves into dark demons who kill everything.
- Giving people the power to save their land from natural disaster only to then inflict a disaster even worse than the one prevented.
- Killing ones entire family after taking the power of a stone.
It is interesting to note that Azari is also somewhat unique among his Pit Lord kin, in that he enjoys and excels at causing chaos from behind the scenes. When the time comes for the treachery of his Spellstones to unleash hell, he still relishes the mayhem and brutality though.
