The Baam Empire are the main antagonists of the anime series Tōshō Daimos. While the empire itself is by no means evil, it is manipulated by Olban after he usurped the throne from Richter's father, Emperor Leon, into waging war with Earth under the belief that the Earthlings were responsible for Leon's death (while in truth it was caused by Georiya under Olban's orders). Its aesthetics appear to be modeled after those of Ancient Rome.
Biography[]
After the destruction of their homeworld, the Baams seek to imigrate with Earth. During Leon's council meeting with Earth's forces to negotiate an emigration, his personal adviser Olban had his right-hand man Georiya poison and kill him while framing the Earthlings for the crime, instigating a war between the Baams and Earthlings. Olban would then usurped Leon's throne as the rightful heir, Prince Richter, was too young to become the new king.
Afterwards, Olban begins his campaign against Earth, having Richter lead his forces to slaughter its inhabitants and destroy cities. Thankfully, the pilot Kazuya Ryūzaki then pilot the karate-using robot Daimos and fight Baam's forces. Throughout the war, both Kazuya and Erika, Richter's younger sister, learn that both humans and Baams aren't all good and bad, and many Baams start to see the truth and make peace with humans, some even become their allies.
Eventually, Olban plans to turn everyone into zombies so no one will rebel against him. Before he can do it however, he is confronted by Richter. Even though Olban threatens to cut off the life support for the frozen Baams, Richter manages to mortally wound him. However, before he dies, Olban reveals that he has a remote-control implant in his heart that if he died, would automatically move the Baam Asteroid City towards Jupiter. Kazuya and Richter manage to foil the plan, leaving Olban's goals for conquest and power in vain. Believing that Baam and Earth can't be at peace as long as he's still alive since he has too many Earthlings' blood on his hands, Richter commits suicide by setting himself to crash to Jupiter.
Afterwards, the Baams finally make peace with the Earthlings and the two races co-exist peacefully.
