“ | I was waiting for you... Baaren. What a beautiful place to meet again. You freed those bears just to annihilate my efforts. If the bears controlled the kingdom, we would have everything we desire. We could reclaim the power we once had. Unfortunately, my fellow bears prefer peace and want to live with other animals as equals. This is pathetic, what a lack of ambitions. Even you, my own brother, betrayed me. The Kernel is quite wonderful, isn't it? I used its powers to control Queen Beeatrice and take over the bees. I continued my experiments with this magical artifact and now understand it more than anyone. I can now control bears' minds! Now that you're here, I can crush your rebellion. Don't move, it won't hurt. Probably. | „ |
~ Baaren's brother to Baaren. |
Baaren's unnamed brother (also known as "???" and "Bad Guy" in the demo version of the Hive update) is the main antagonist of Super Bear Adventure.
He is the older brother of Baaren whose goal is to rule the animal kingdom and defeat his brother. He is also Baaren's archenemy.
Appearance[]
Baaren's brother is a dark purple anthropomorphic bear with black eyes and a black nose, who is only slightly taller than the former. In his Queen Bee form, he is much larger and has purple eyes.
At the end of the boss fight where he is defeated, when he is about to fall off the platform, his fur changes to a grizzly like color before he falls into the purple honey to his death.
Biography[]
As shown in the game's opening, he had ordered the bees to make purple money and use it to mind control the animals to turn them hostile. He would then make the bees raid the Bear Village and imprison the bears into cages after finding out they are immune to the purple honey, which are scattered throughout the several villages in the game. The only survivor of this being Baaren, who must now set off on a journey to save his fellow bears and defeat his brother.
After Baaren defeats the Snow Yeti, Baaren's brother is shown to have been watching him before shaking his head (likely in disapproval) before leaving. He then orders the bees to turn Test Subject No. 1706 into a giant using the artifact so he could protect the baby bears from being rescued. However, Baaren would defeat him and rescue the captured bear.
After the player saves enough bears, they will unlock the final world titled "The Hive". It has been updated from the previous version as it is now longer with more hazards and tougher platforming that Barren must go through. When Baaren approaches his brother at his throne, he tells him that he wanted to rule the animal kingdom and villages to crush Baaren's "rebellion" as he refused to join him, making his brother angry as he attempts to kill Baaren using the artifact, sadistically claiming it won't hurt.
Battle[]
Baaren's brother starts the fight by using a controlled Queen Beeatrice to attack Barren. She will shoot purple honey beams out of her mouth and use her stinger to destroy the platforms Baaren stands on. Once he reaches the top, his brother tells him that he cannot escape anymore and attempts to use the artifact on him, but Shicka got in the way and it turns him into a giant instead, due to the spell not being calibrated for backpackers like him. Baaren then uses Giant Shicka to get to the platform Baaren's brother is on to fight with him there. He will try attacking Baaren by tossing purple honey balls at him, which can be reflected back to deal damage. The player must then try to push him off the platform into the hole, and this must be done 3 times. Once he is defeated, Baaren's brother is sent flying out of the Hive and lands into the purple honey, presumably killing him, with his throne also being destroyed.
After the fight, Queen Beeatrice apologizes to Baaren, explaining that the Kernel had been controlling her mind. She also mentions that the Kernel exploded when it hit the Hive on its way down, and somehow they were teleported back outside. However, Baaren's brother ended up elsewhere, leaving his fate ambiguous.
Personality[]
While very little is known about Baaren's brother other than him being a wreckless, power-hungry and manipulative tyrant who ought to seek "revenge" against his brother for not wanting to rule the kingdom alongside him, due to him just wanting to spend time with him, but for no truly good reason. He then makes his primary goal to kill Baaren using the artifact, but to no avail. In the original version of the Hive however, when he is about to fall off the platform, his fur changes to a grizzly color, with him having a tear in his eye before falling off the platform to his death.
Powers and Abilities[]
Baaren's brother has many abilities that he used in battle, some of them being removed however.
- Shape-shifting - Before the Hive update, in battle, Baaren's brother would shape-shift into his impersonation Queen Bee form to attack Baaren. This was removed in the new update however, with him just simply using the latter instead.
- Hovering - Using the artifact, Baaren's brother can fly.
- Tele-kinesis - Baaren's brother is able to tie Baaren to chains using his powers, and in the original version, he changed gravity to bring Baaren up to the roof and tried using the artifact on him, but to no avail.
- Manipulation - He mind controls the animal kingdom using the artifact and orders the bees to make purple honey, which infects all of the animals (except bears) and turns them into hostile and aggressive creatures. When he finds out that it doesn't work on bears however, he decides to imprison them in the villages.
Trivia[]
- He is the only character/enemy in the game to not have a name.
- It is currently unknown if he actually died or not, due to his death not being confirmed. A few people have also made theories if he is still alive or not. However, due to his body being nowhere to be found and him not returning after this, some assume that he is dead.
- His fate in the new version has been changed from the original, where he died simply by falling off the platform with a tear in his eye, indicating that he was never truly evil.
