Bador Vlad is an antagonist in the manga series Choujin X. He is the right-hand man of Sora Siruha, having been at her side longer than any other member of the Tower of Mourning.
Appearance[]
In his youth, Vlad had the appearance of a conventionally attractive young man, even earning himself the epithet of "Beautiful General" for his beauty. After he attempted to take on Zora's mark, however, his appearance shifted into what can best be described as a deformed skeleton. He has goat horns extending out of his eyes and has skeletal arms and legs. Despite his fragile-looking appearance, however, Vlad's skills in combat haven't waned a bit.
Personality[]
Vlad is a fanatically devoted follower to Sora Siruha. Ever since he fought under her during the War of Nanasu, Vlad has pledged his life to serving her. As the years have gone on, especially after he failed to take on Sora's mark, Vlad's sanity and mental state has seriously regressed, with him frequently exhibiting aggressive and irrational behavior towards his allies. He will frequently abuse his subordinates whenever they piss him off, such as when he tortured Tawashi, Jing, and Ice for failing their mission. Additionally, he gets extremely annoyed at Batista when the latter takes too long in explaining the progress of his research, destroying the man's chemical vials in a fit of anger.
With that being said, there is no question that Vlad's loyalty to his master is entirely genuine. Even when Sora was cast out from Yamato Mori and cursed, Vlad continued serving at her side.
As Vlad's battle against Yamato Mori continues, Vlad's stoic, business-like exterior begins to give way to a battle-crazed fighter who genuinely loves being pushed to his limits. While he initially regards his opponents as mere fodder to be exterminated, as he's continually forced to raise again and again, he begins to openly express personal satisfaction in the battle and treats Azuma and BB Banshee with a kind of begrudging respect.
Trivia[]
- Bador Vlad is clearly inspired by Count Dracula. Vlad is of an aristocratic background and has an Eastern European name (Note that Dracula is often believed to have been inspired by the historical Vlad the Impaler). In his youth, Vlad had long black hair and pale skin, similar to how Dracula is often depicted. Vlad has the ability to manipulate blood and heal from consuming the blood of his opponents. Finally, Vlad's chaos state gives him bat-like wings, which of course reflects Dracula's ability to transform into a bat.
- Appropriately enough, given that their battle is a major point of focus during the Raid, Vlad is something of a dark reflection of Azuma Higashi. Vlad and Azuma are both serious-minded soldiers who focus on the mission at hand. Underneath the surface, however, both of them genuinely enjoy bloodshed and being pushed to their limits in battle. As Vlad's battle against Yamato Mori continues, he evidently begins to take great personal satisfaction in the fight, to the point that he's just excited to see what his opponents will do next. However, while Vlad openly embraces his love for battle, Azuma actively denies it on account of Sandek's teachings. Ironically, the sheer threat that Vlad poses forces Azuma into throwing aside any and all inhibitions.
- Vlad's and Azuma's fight can also be seen as a reflection of what Yubiko said to Azuma during their fight before the timeskip. According to Yubiko, the real fighters are forged in battle, not by endlessly training. Despite Azuma training alongside his friends at Yamato Mori for years, in the end the fight is determined by him and Vlad descending into mindless carnage.
