Biography[]
Past[]
Baern was an alien from a different world with the ability to absorb various sources of energy to power radioactive strength. He mercilessly killed hundreds on his homeplanet before coming to Krypton.
Jor-El managed to exile Baern to the Phantom Zone. Stripped of his physical corporeal form, Baern was rendered bodiless and he took the form of a Phantom Wraith. While trapped in the Phantom Zone, Baern developed a deep hatred towards the House of El and all their descendants.
Season Six[]
After Clark Kent was banished to the Phantom Zone by Zod, he managed to escape with aid from Jor-El's apprentice Raya but unwittingly released several prisoners from the Zone as well. Baern escaped through the portal and landed in Oakland, California where two teenage boys were playing basketball and witnessed the crash.
Baern's phantom possessed a human teenager named Lamar and when his friend Yance approached, he asked where Kal-El was. Yance was confused and when he didn't answer, Lamar blasted a beam of energy at Yance, vaporizing him.
He then began looking for Clark, eager for revenge. He traveled in Kal-El's direction for six weeks, leaving a trail of nuclear power plants drained of radiation energy as he headed towards Smallville. Chloe Sullivan reported the crash site to Clark and with the discovery of human ashes and radioactive material the researchers were working on was depleted. Clark guessed the "Zoner" was feeding off of the energy.
Baern made his way to the Daily Planet, where he asked Chloe Sullivan where the archives were. Thinking he was an intern, she told him where they were. In the archives, "Lamar" scanned the database until he found a picture of Clark and his location. At the Kent Farm, Clark was reunited with Raya, who felt guilty for leaving her in the Phantom Zone, but she was glad to be on Earth, saying Jor-El described its beauty to her.
Lamar went to the Kent Farm interrupting their reunion and introduced himself as Baern. He said he's been waiting to take revenge on Kal-El for a long time. Baern used his powers against Clark, blasting a beam of energy that sent him flying through the barn wall. He advances on Raya, but she was able to fend him off by kicking him at super-speed but he escapes. Clark wondered why Baern escaped without finishing him off and Raya said he probably didn't have enough energy to fight them both and predicts that Baern will look for a new energy source.
Baern then managed to find the Brain InterActive Construct's hard drive at the Luthor Mansion by sensing it; he absorbed the energy within the box which crumbles into dust and gained enough power to take on Clark and Raya without getting drained. Clark and Raya went to the Fortress as she believes they can revive it if they lure Baern there and drain his power. She sends out a signal for Baern. Martha arrived home to find Baern. He asks her where Clark is, but when he heard the signal, he disappears.
Baern arrives at the Fortress and fired a blast of energy at Clark. Clark absorbs some of it with the crystal, but he is thrown back. Baern fired again, but Raya steps in front of the blast, protecting Clark. Clark recovered and advances onto Baern. He is able to absorb his energy and banish Baern back to the Zone through the crystal. Baern was gone and Lamar was restored. He then used the energy Baern absorbed from the black box, which was absorbed by the Crystal when it banished Baern. As he clutches Jor-El's crystal, in the Arctic, he used it to resuscitate the Fortress as it lights up once again.
