Bahamut is the overarching antagonist of the Shingeki no Bahamut franchise, serving as the overarching antagonist of both Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis and Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul.

It is an ancient dragon-like beast who seek nothing more than the complete destruction of everything in its path. It was sealed two thousands thanks to the sacrifice of the Ruler of Gods Odin and the Demon King Satan, but thanks to the machinations of an individual known as Gilles de Rais, its shadows looms once more over the world.

Appearence[]

Bahamut is a gigantic dragon-like beast, with a humanoid body covered in large black scales and spikes that makes it basically invulnerable. Its head is draconic in form, with two curved horns coming out from the top of it, while its eyes are yellow. On its back it has two large wings that, when fully open, are larger than its own height, and have a similiarly long barbed tail.

Personality[]

Bahamut is a very aggressive and destructive being, who seems to have some degree of intelligence but mostly acts as a wrathful and uncontrollable beast that only seeks destruction and nothing more. There seems to be no reason behind its action, only pure fury and a desire to see everything around it burn down under its devastating flames.

While it mostly act like a wild animal, however, it still has some form of intelligence. When Belzebuth tries to control it and order it to exterminate the gods, Bahamut purposedly turn around and shots him instead, despite the fact that attacking forward would have been much more convinient to it. This seems to show that he know what Belzebuth was trying to do, and went out of its way to attack him to punish him for his arrogance.

Despite this, Bahamut is mostly silent and as such it's personality is never fully explored, aside from its desire to see everything destroyed, a desire so powerful that nothing in the world seems to be able to stop it once its fury is unleashed upon the world.

Past[]

Bahamut is sealed

Bahamut is sealed thanks to the sacrifice of Satan and Odin

The origins of Bahamut are unknown except that it is said to have appeared in Mistarcia numerous times, each time leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. At some point in the past, it appeared once again, attempting to destroy the world in it's entirety and fighting against armies of humans, gods and demons. The Demon King Satan and the Ruler of Gods Odin joined the fight, and thanks to their sacrifice the beast was sealed for thousands of years.

Satan became the Demon Key while Odin the God Key, both halves of the Trascendent Key needed to reawake the ancient dragon. Soon after, a prophecy was made that, if Bahamut was ever able to return to the land, only the Holy Knight would have been able to defeat it, and as a reminder of this prophecy a statue was built in the royal castle over Anatae.

2.000 years later, the sorcerer Gilles de Rais began to plot the reawakening of Bahamut, wishing to see it bring chaos upon the world to admire the spectacle of pure destruction it would leave behind. For this reason, he started to manipulate humans, gods and demon in order to achive this goal, contacting a demon known as Belzebuth in order to create a suitable vessel for the Trascendent Key: Amira.

When Favaro and Amira, the former becomes an unwilling helper to latter, without knowing that humans, god and demons are all searching for the girl since she stolen one of the necessary pieces to reawaken the dragon.

Tricked by Gilles, this time under the fake identity of Lavalley, into thinking that her mother is waiting for her there, Amira starts to go towards Helheim alongside Favaro, later joined by Kaisar Lidfald. The three falls into another dimension where they meet the Ancient Forest Dragon, who was trapped there thousands of years ago when he was strucked by one of Bahamut's talon. The dragon warns the group that if they continue their way they will reawaken Bahamut, and suggest Favaro to kill Amira, to which he refuses and frees the dragon by extracting the talon from its body before they continue their journey.

The group arrives at Helheim, but instead of Amira's mother they find Martinet and Belzebuth, the two who have plotted their arrival there. By revealing her the truth about her birth and making her see her own mother's death, they send Amira into a state of desperation which causes her to fuse with the Demon Key in Helheim, turning her into the Trascendent Key thanks to the fact she already had the God Key inside herself. The two start to go towards Abos in order to use the Key to reawaken the Bahamut, with Kaisar, Rita, Bacchus and Azazel attempting to stop them from doing it. However, their effort are in vain as the Trascendent Key fuses with Bahamut, freeing it from the seal under Gilles' satisfied eyes.

Belzebuth immediately attempt to control Bahamut just like Martinet told him, but the ancient dragon doesn't obey him and instead blasts him away, mortally wounding him. He manages to climb on its head and, after a moment of hesitation caused by the fact that Amira is also inside Bahamut, he stabs the beast in the head with the same talon it took from the Ancient Forest Dragon. The body of Bahamut explodes as a chain reaction, an the beast is seemingly defeated once and for all. Six months later, the world is still dealing with the aftermath of the destruction caused by the ancient dragon, and a new king is crowned, but Favaro is certain that Bahamut is still alive and will one day return.

With this knowledge, Charioce XVII, an illegitimate son of Charioce XIII, inherited the throne and decide to put his hand on the weapon to use it again the ancient dragon once it would come back. However, the gods refused to give it to him since neither him nor anyone working with him decided to diffuse the information of Bahamut's return, and as such Charioce started a war campaign against the gods and enslaved the demons in order to force them to help him.

As chaos insues in the town because of a combined attack of gods and demons who are attempting to overthrone Charioce XVII for what he did over the course of several years, the group arrive with Bahamut following them.

Knowing full well the treat Bahamut poses, gods and demons decide to put aside their divergences with Charioce and works together to stop it's path of destruction while the King prepare to use Dromos against the beast. Nina reaches him and decide to help him, the two of them combining their power to unlock the full potential of Dromos and shooting against Bahamut, who attempts to blast them away. However, the weapon with the power of the two is too powerful even for the almighty beast, and is in the end overpowered and defeated once again.

However, the corpse of the beast vanishes after a while, and Favaro wonders if Bahamut, while severely weakened and not a treat anymore, could still alive.
