Your spells may have quelled my siblings! But I am the slippery one...
~ Bai Tza to Uncle.

Bai Tza, also known as the Demon of Water, is a supporting antagonist in the TV series Jackie Chan Adventures. She is one of the two female Demon Sorcerers.

She was voiced by Mona Marshall, who also played Krailoni in Disney's Treasure Planet.

Appearance[]

Bai Tza is a demon that resembles a demonic mermaid/gorgon hybrid with tentacles for hair.

Personality[]

In comparison to their siblings, Bai Tza seemed to have the closest connection with Shendu because she showed the strongest, most personal dislike for him, and because their verbal exchanges frequently seemed to be less impersonal than those between Shendu and the others. Their conversations in the Netherworld, where Bai Tza frequently used chilly, poisonous tones of speech, served as the greatest example of this. Shendu, in turn, seemed to take Bai Tza's personal rivalry to heart, tauntingly tutting to get her attention and becoming a little more argumentative with her when she refused to release his spirit from Valmont's body (although this may have been out of outrage), though he still acted as submissive toward her as he did the other demon siblings. When the alternate Jackie Chan started re-banishing the Demon Sorcerers after the Book of Ages reality change, much to the chagrin of the remaining demons, Bai Tza mockingly bemoaned that she had been "even almost beginning to like [him]" after he'd created the alternate timeline before things had gone south. Regarding her connections with her other siblings, Bai Tza, showing a sense of familial honor, fiercely vowed to annihilate Shendu on their behalf since Shendu had failed to stop the Chan Clan from re-banishing the other six demons. This was done in a teasing manner.

At times, Bai Tza showed a propensity for aggressive dominance displays and authority assertions that bordered on superiority complex. This was seen in several of her encounters with Shendu, and she once ordered Hsi Wu around in the Netherworld when Po Kong had a distracting back itch. In the Netherworld (and while attacking the site of the Book of Ages in the alternate timeline), she seemed to be one of the more assertive and domineering of the demon siblings. When it came to dealing with the Chan Clan, Bai Tza was more sensible than most of her siblings. After they had been successful in re-banishing the other six imprisoned demons, when she was free, she upheld her resolve to avoid the mistakes of her siblings by fleeing rather than fighting, and she had the foresight to target and destroy Uncle's chi-spell gourd to stop him from completing the banishing spell. Despite having the chi-spell that could re-banish Jackie every time they came into contact, Bai Tza seemed to perceive Jackie as a secondary threat, and instead saw Uncle as the most dangerous of the Chans. Despite her practicality, Bai Tza, like the other Demon Sorcerers, failed to anticipate the prospect of the Chans pursuing her and trying to thwart her intentions if she carried them out elsewhere. As a result, her plot to flood San Francisco was unsuccessful, and she was subsequently exiled again. The Chans were viewed as a threat that needed to be neutralized by a concerted attack from the Demon Sorcerers in the other Book of Ages timeline when Bai Tza and her siblings realized the Chans were probably trying to get to the Book of Ages and return history to normal. Bai Tza's shrewdness was also on show when she almost quickly deduced that Jade Chan would probably guide the other Chan Clan to the Book of Ages to fix reality after discovering that Jade Chan's memory had not been affected by it.

After being exiled for centuries and learning that Atlantis was nothing more than ruins, Bai Tza set about founding a new kingdom elsewhere. She further demonstrated her cunning by selecting San Francisco because she learned that it had geological fault lines (which she could disrupt by using a water-summoning spell to strike the San Andreas Fault with pressurised floodwaters). When her eagerness to finish her water-summoning spell and then fend off the Chans' attempts to foil her plan overrode her evasive methods aimed to prevent her from becoming re-banished, she showed tenacity and maybe a feeling of commitment.

Biography[]

Bai Tza was one of the eight Demon Sorcerers who once reigned over Earth during the dark ages. Her rule took place in the lost city of Atlantis. When a band of heroes appeared and sealed them into the netherworld, her city was left to ruin and left to bicker amongst her fellow siblings, all except for Shendu, who was sealed in a statue-like form. During the second season events of the series, Shendu's soul had been banished to the netherworld after his physical form was destroyed by Jade Chan using his own trademark Dragon Talisman. Bai Tza and her relatives began to torture Shendu endlessly for not attempting to free them from the netherworld although he explains that he was unable to due to the fact that he had been cursed earlier and had already begun to open up a portal to the demon world as soon as his fleshy form was restored. Shendu makes a pact with them that if they allow his ethereal form back into the human world and possess a single being as his physical vessel, he would promise to set them free. Bai Tza does not see any action until the closing episodes of the second season when all but the seventh and eighth gates have been sealed. Bai Tza emerges from her own portal thanks to Shendu, although she is not thankful for his efforts as the six other portals have been closed thanks to the Chans. The family soon chases her down but she manages to quickly escape.

She returns to her city of Atlantis only to find it barren and in ruin over time and seeks to find a new abode which to call her kingdom. She appears before Shendu for answers but discover he is sleeping, immediately directing her attention towards his goons. They inform her that San Francisco would be an ideal place, although she takes more interest after overhearing earthquakes, and departs for the San Andreas fault to cast a spell which would flood the city.

After information leaking from Valmont, the Chan family heads towards the fault to stop Bai Tza before she can succeed. An intense battle ensues with Shendu reawakening after a subduing spell by Uncle wears off. They managed to stop the two and save the city, Bai Tza quickly taking her leave afterward. Bai Tza again appears and tries to send a tidal wave, but the Chans intercept her with the banishing item. They succeed, but the wayward Jade manages to get snagged into the energy stream by accident and ends up the netherworld with Bai Tza. When Shendu appears to his estranged siblings with hope of escaping yet due to the unclosed eighth portal belonging to him, Jade makes her presence known and preys on their ambitions to get out, allowing her to make it to the portal in time.

Powers and Abilities[]

Bai Tza is the Demon Sorceress of Water, and she has total power over and mental control over all liquids. She has the ability to release it from her hands in the form of strong water orbs or blasts, or she may transform into water. Bai Tza has the power to perform spells that may call enough water to drown a sizable city, as well as enormous tidal waves, whirlpools, and other natural phenomena. When struck with enough force, Bai Tza has the ability to turn into drops of water and will explode into a splash of water before rapidly reforming herself in a matter of seconds. This was demonstrated when she changed her direction and converted her body into water. She then changed back into her demon form after Viper hit her with the Dragon Talisman. Shendu's fire breath was cancelled out by Jackie by tossing Bai Tza into the blast, which caused the flames to go out and causing her to turn into steam. Her ability to metamorphose also allows her to move her face to the back of her head, produce a hammer out of her hand, punch a hole in her stomach to deflect a blow, and change into a gigantic waterspout.

Bai Tza has the swimming, underwater breathing, and slithering speed to outrun a motorbike. Similar to how she swims in water, she can fly in the low-gravity demon realm.

Even when she isn't paying attention to her adversaries, her prehensile head tentacles may grab them and attack.
