Baka
Baka is the minor antagonist in the 2016 video game, Mafia III. He is the brutal and dangerous leader of the Haitian mob in New Bordeaux and an enemy of both the Marcano Crime Family and the Black Mob.
Biography
Little is known of Baka's early life, except that he was born in Haiti. He was likely a criminal in his native country. In 1957, Francios Duvalier was elected President of Haiti. Duvalier, b.k.a. "Papa Doc", commissioned a secret police called the Tonton Macoute who intimidated the people of Haiti and rooted out criminals in a horrible manner. Many people, including Baka, fled Haiti. Most set their sights on America. While most Haitians who fled Duvalier's regime were decent and hardworking, the criminals were included in the mix, and soon the southern United States had Haitian gangs. As of 1968, Baka was the leader of the Haitian gang of New Bordeaux in the U.S and deeply despises the white people of the city who treat him and his folks and his fellow black people like dirt, and in turn, he and his gang brutalize and attack white people.
He is active in the Delray Hollow district of the city, and when he noticed that the Black Mob led by Sammy Robinson had affiliated themselves with the Italian Marcano Crime Family, led by Sal Marcano, Baka ordered his gang to attack Sammy's gang and harrass the residents. Of particular target was a numbers racket called the Black Lottery (which was an ipso facto tax on the residents of Delray Hollow), which caused Sammy to lose money and fall behind in his required tributes to Marcano.
Around this time, he had also been acquainted to Cassandra, member of the Haitian mob whom he supposedly abused. In order to solve the problem of the Haitians, Sammy sent his protegee Lincoln Clay to eliminate Baka and end the Haitians' attacks. Baka was confronted in his headquarters, located in the Bayou, and shot by Lincoln. In his dying moments, Baka revealed he ordered the attacks for two reasons, to get Delray Hollow in the hands of the Haitian gang and that he was a black supremacist who called Sammy a "race traitor". He tells Lincoln that black people were not supposed to do business with or answer to white men such as Marcano. When Lincoln angrily says that was an insult to his adoptive father, Baka snarls "then you are no better than him!" and tried to attack Lincoln one final time, but ended up with his throat snapped by the man. Cassandra pretended to be a rape/abuse victim of Baka after his death in order to seem innocent to Lincoln.
After Baka's death, Cassandra took over the Haitian Mob and after the Marcanos betrayed the Black Mob and killed Sammy, allied herself with Lincoln in order to end the Marcanos' reign over the city.
