Bakeneko (バケネコ Bakeneko) was a cat-themed Minor Youkai serving the Youkai Army Corps and a minor antagonist in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, appearing as the main antagonist of the 8th episode.
She was played by Akiko Kitayama.
Biography[]
Past[]
Bakeneko first came to be when humanity's negative emotions physically manifested and formed thier own group under the leadership of the most powerful of thier kind; Daimaou. One thousand years ago, Bakeneko was among the army of Yokai who attacked Ninjaman whilst he defended a village. Bakeneko was evidently able to escape alive but Ninjaman was banished by the Three God Generals as he slaughtered his entire village after mistaking them for Yokai.
Bakeneko was ultimately among the Yokai who managed to avoid being sealed behind the Seal Door by the Ancient Kakurangers but was reduced to a human form when the Yo Power was sealed with Daimaou.
Kakuranger[]
By 1994, Bakeneko has evolved into a more human-like form by the time that the Yo Power is released by Kappa.
Feeling that humans have constantly mistreated cats, Bakeneko uses cats to kidnap children so that they can be fed to other Youkai. Bakenenko is first seen as a human tricking two girls into a cage with her cats before kidnapping them. However, the Kakurangers are led to her shop by Nekomaru and investigate so she quickly puts on an act as a kind lady who serves them food. Unknown to the Kakurangers, it is poisoned and she uses magic to force them to do an odd dance commanded by her and go to sleep. When Sasuke and Tsuruhime wake up and learn Bakenenko's true agenda of murdering children out of her misanthropic nature towards humanity, they alert the other Kakuranges and fight her. They do this and Tsuruhime manages to save the kids who are then brainwashed and attack the Kakurangers. This is until the effects wear off and Nekomaru crashes into her. Enraged by the "betrayal" of a fellow cat, Bakeneko enlarges but is defeated by Red Saruder and White Kark before they form Muteki Shogun. Bankeneko charges but is immediately killed by the Blazing Shogun Sword.
Bakeneko is recalled by The Announcer whilst recapping the Kakurangers' war against the Yokai during his feature on the Kakurangers.
Bakeneko is heard, along with all the other defeated Yokai, behind the Seal Door after Daimaou is finally sealed away by the Kakurangers. Reeling that they are now powerless in captivity, the Yokai all vow that they will one day be reborn and regain their power, cursing humanity.
Personality[]
Bakenenko seemed to have a more misanthropic side to her as she felt that humans hadn't treated cats well and this hatred was why she captured innocent children. She didn't seem to hold any remorse towards that and enjoyed the suffering of the children she captures.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Longevity: Bakenewko survived for at least six thousand years with no side effects.

- Bakeneko was the only Youkai not to have thier mythological origins explained.
- Although the Announcer does have his usual explanation cutaway, it was for Bakeneko's supernatural kidnappings.
- Due to her breasts, Bakeneko was not adapted into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
- However, her left hand and fur were used for Plague Patroller #1.
