Balbas is a major antagonist in the anime series Tōshō Daimos. He is Richter's bald-headed general who ranks lower than Raiza. While initially appears to be a typical brute, he is secretly noble.

He was voiced by the late Shōzō Iizuka, who also voiced Dr. Neo Cortex in the Japanese dubbed version of Crash Bandicoot, Dino Geist in Brave Exkaiser, and numerous villains in the Metal Hero franchise, such as Don Horror, Demon King Psycho, Great Emperor Kubilai, and Satan Goss.

Personality[]

Balbas is a wise strategist who is fiercely loyal to Richter, having provided many sinister strategies for him to fight against the Kazuya. He is also in fact noble and genuinely respects the Daimobic Base and would even make a great ally for them had it not been because they're on the opposing sides. When being treated well by them during his capture, he is so emotionally moved but doesn't want to admit it. He is even more moved when Kazuya tells him that humans and Baams share the same universe and dies a honorable death helping the latter get into Daimos.

Biography[]

At the start of the series, Olban begins his campaign against Earth, having Richter lead his forces to slaughter its inhabitants and destroy cities. Aiding him are Balbas and Raiza. During the invasion, Balbas has helped Richter to scheme against Kazuya, but they fail every time.

Halfway through the war, Balbas' younger brother Himley overhears Olban's world domination plot and realizes that Olban and Georiya were responsible for Emperor Leon's death, rather than the Earthlings. He reports this to Richter, who initially doesn't believe him but then confronts Georiya, who captures Richter, Balbas, Himley, Erika and Raiza and reveals the truth: that not only was he responsible for Leon's death but also Kazuya's father, Isamu Ryūzaki's (which Erika previously thought she was accidentally responsible). Raiza manages to trick Georiya so that she can set Richter and Balbas free.

Balbas is later captured by the Daimobic Base, who however treat him well. He is emotionally moved by this but refuses to admit it. When the two are escaping the Baam soldiers, Kazuya tells Balbas that humans and Baams aren't so different as they both share the same universe, much to Balbas' tears. Afterwards, Balbas helps Richter get into Daimos and is killed in the process.

Trivia[]

  • His character is similar to Jangal Rui from Voltes V.
