Professor Baldi Baldimore, or simply known as Baldi, is the titular main antagonist of the Baldi's Basics franchise.
He is the headteacher of both the Schoolhouse and the Super Schoolhouse, who appears friendly and kind at first but gets angry and violent when the Protagonist gets his quiz questions wrong and smacks him with a ruler if he catches him.
He is voiced by the game's creator Micah "Mystman12" McGonigal, who voices most of the characters in the same series, with exceptions being 1st Prize, Johnny, Mrs. Pomp, and Beans (excluding voiceless characters).
Personality[]
Baldi originally appears as a supportive and helpful teacher, as he helps to guide the Protagonist. He was constantly happy until the Protagonist makes a mistake with his math question, even if the question is considered unanswerable. Once the Protagonist makes the mistake, Baldi's happy face turns into an angry one. He is later shown to be quite cruel and abusive when he inflicts a penalty on the Protagonist as retribution for an incorrect answer.
Despite his manipulative and treacherous nature, he is also shown to be pleasurable when he congratulates the Protagonist after the seven books are all collected. However, Baldi soon threatened him to get out while he can and starts chasing him immediately afterward.
Baldi is shown to be defensive when helping others in the Schoolhouse. If the Protagonist robs Johnny's Shop, Baldi will get angrier for each item he steals, and he will also target the shop once the alarm starts going off. It is generally seen that Baldi likes to create some crazy machines in his spare time, such as Fog Machines, some kind of Gravity Flipping machines, Poster Portals and others.
Appearance[]
Baldi is a tall, slender humanoid with long arms, fair skin, huge blue (visibly black) eyes, red lips, and thin brown eyebrows. He has a big smile on his face (before engaging the player) and his mouth is incredibly red. He wears a long-sleeved green shirt, blue pants, and light brown shoes. Despite being seen as bald, he has one string of brown hair, which is often mistaken for a third eyebrow.
When pursuing the Protagonist, Baldi's facial expression goes from a big smile to being completely neutral.
Biography[]
Origin[]
Before Baldi's Basics In Education & Learning was released, Baldi was actually created many years ago by Mystman12. His sister created her own comic, which gave him the inspiration to create his own comic, which he named the character Baldimore.
The comic got the name from Baldi being bald, and it is about Baldi always wanting more food. In one scene, Baldi is seen trying to eat the planet Earth.
Role[]
At the start of the game, Baldi greets the Protagonist with a wave and welcomes him to the school. He then lets the Protagonist find the first notebook, which he will let him take if he do a quick pop quiz. If the Protagonist completes the first quiz without getting any problems wrong, Baldi will reward the Protagonist with a shiny Quarter that can be used later in the game to activate the Noise Phone or to purchase a BSoda from a BSoda Machine.
However, after missing a problem on the next quiz (this is inevitable), Baldi will suddenly become very angry. The notebook will be collected, but Baldi will become enraged and attempt to punish the Protagonist for getting the problem wrong by chasing him down across the school to beat him with a yardstick and possibly hit him. Getting caught by Baldi restarts the game. The Protagonist must traverse the school and avoid Baldi and the other enemies while collecting notebooks. Baldi can hear any door opened, and will come to the source of the noise, though using loud objects such as the alarm clock and tape can distract him, and using WD-NoSquee on doors before opening them will ensure that Baldi cannot hear him.
The Protagonist must complete a quiz every time he attempt to get a notebook. When he get a problem wrong (this is inevitable again), Baldi will quicken his pace and become harder to avoid. After collecting all seven notebooks, Baldi will congratulate the Protagonist, then scream and threaten him to get out while he still can (However, as revealed in Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered, the "GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!" was said by Baldi due to a manipulation of the game by an entity called Null, the line that Baldi is supposed to say is "Find a way out before I catch you!"). He becomes extremely fast, and will constantly be near the Protagonist. And so, if the Protagonist is caught by Arts and Crafters during the pursuit, he will be teleported back to the start with Baldi close by, all but guaranteeing a game over. During this time, the exit will constantly appear and disappear in different areas around the school, making escape difficult.
However, if the Protagonist manages to locate the exit, he will escape from Baldi and the school and win the game. There is a secret scene if the Protagonist gets every question wrong in all seven notebooks, which says to go to Baldi's Office for improvement. In Baldi's Basics Classic and Classic Remastered, he will find Null in Baldi's Office, who will congratulate the Protagonist in finding him, before going on to tell him to destroy the game. In Classic Remastered, after Null is defeated, Baldi will replace Null in his office, teaching the Protagonist advice on subtraction.
Plus[]
In Baldi's Basics Plus, after the events of the original game, at the beginning of the floor, Baldi happily greets and welcomes the Protagonist to his Super Schoolhouse while inviting him to play hide and seek. Once the Protagonist moves at least two tiles away from the starting elevator area, Baldi will close his eyes and start counting down from 10. During the countdown, there is a small chance that Baldi will open his right eye and peek at the Protagonist. This incident does not affect gameplay. Once the countdown is over, Baldi will hold the ruler in his hand and start chasing the Protagonist. Surprisingly, he would also be angry. However, in Explorer Mode, Baldi will simply disappear after completing his countdown, allowing the Protagonist to roam the school freely.
If the Protagonist completes all the floors in Hide-and-Seek, he will meet Baldi in his office where he will sing a song while dancing. After the song ends, random parts of the lyrics will play at fast intervals, overlapping each other. The game will then 'pseudo-corrupt' into a distorted, randomly colored BadSum screen.
Birthday Bash[]
Set sometimes after the event of Baldi's Basics Plus, in celebratory to the one-year anniversary of his game, Baldi invites the Protagonist back to the school. He will still attempt to attack the Protagonist after getting a question wrong, but once all seven notebooks are collected, Baldi and the other residents of Here School shout "Surprise!" once the Protagonist reaches the cafeteria exit. Baldi tells the Protagonist to step on a lift and blow out the candle on a large cake. Once the candle is blown out, the lights dim and everyone is lifted into the air, forcing the Protagonist to a hallway full of glitched rooms.
The glitched rooms contain corrupted files resembling colored Baldis that do not harm the Protagonist. One of these rooms is Baldi's Office. The Protagonist must count the Baldis based on their color in buttons in one room littered with balloons; should him do it correctly, Baldi shouts "Wow!" before a room opens. Stepping into the room spawns multiple hostile colored versions of Baldi, forcing him to run. Once enough time has passed, a distorted "thank you" screen appears featuring Baldi and the others.
An alternate ending can be found in Birthday Bash if the Protagonist was to use a "Teleportation Teleporter" to get back to the first floor. However, obtaining the teleporter is very hard, as this item has a very low spawn rate, and can only be obtained from the vending machines. Once inside the Principal's Office, the Protagonist will find either Null or Baldi, depending on the game. In Birthday Bash, the Protagonist will find Null in the office, who will once again congratulate the Protagonist in finding him, before going on to explain that Birthday Bash is a demo for Baldi's Basics Plus, before telling the Protagonist to destroy the game once again. In Classic Remastered, after Null is defeated, Baldi will take his place, and if the Protagonist goes to the Principal's Office again, Baldi will let him listen to music he made.
Classic Remastered[]
In Classic Remastered, Baldi's behavior is relatively the same in Classic and Birthday Bash, with the game's Demo Style including a new alternate ending where he is featured. If the Protagonist is able to answer all the Math Machines correctly, and then answer 6 bonus questions correctly, he will be given a Portal Poster, where he will then need to use it in the classroom with the Safety Scissors poster in it. This will reveal a ladder leading to Baldi's Basement. Here, before Null is defeated, when the Protagonist enters a room with a shrink machine in it, Null will appear behind him, asking him why he hasn't destroyed the game yet, before going on to explain that he knows that he want to figure out the game's lore. After Null is defeated, Baldi will appear in his shrink machine when the Protagonist enters the room, and will let he help him test it. Once the button is pressed, the machine will make some strange sounds, before the sound of an explosion is heard, and Baldi is heard screaming. The door then opens, revealing a soot-covered Baldi standing there, explaining that the machine still needs a "few tweaks".
Baldi is heard one more time after reaching the normal ending of Demo Style, where he will ask the Protagonist if he thought Demo Style was fun, before going on to explain that there's more fun to be had in Baldi's Basics Plus, before Plus' promotion is shown.
Other Games[]
Field Trip Demo[]
In the minigame, Baldi takes the Protagonist camping in the woods and leaves the Protagonist to gather sticks for the campfire as he goes set up bear traps. If the fire goes out before time runs out, Baldi spawns at the campfire and almost immediately catches the Protagonist. Currently, the game is still in under-development.
Public Demo[]
In the public demo for the full game, Baldi wants to play hide-and-seek with the Protagonist, and chases after him once he walk a good distance away. Much like the original version, as the Protagonist collects notebooks, Baldi gets much faster, until his speed becomes so fast that it becomes almost impossible to escape without a strategy. In one of the random events, Baldi breaks his ruler, causing the Protagonist to stop hearing him approach for several seconds. If the Protagonist has collected an apple by the time Baldi catches him, he will eat the apple, stopping for ten seconds to eat before continuing chasing the Protagonist.
Kickstarter Exclusive Demo[]
In the Kickstarter Exclusive demo, Baldi will behave exactly the same in the Public Demo. The Protagonist will have to beat him at Hide-and-Seek in 3 different floors in the Super Schoolhouse. After this is done, the Protagonist will be taken to a black room, with Baldi standing before him. Turning around will reveal text saying:
"Some day, you will get the satisfying, canonical, and exciting ending that you deserve."
"Today is not that day."
When the Protagonist turns back around, Baldi will dab for a few seconds, before the game ends.
In the demo's new Farm field trip, if the Protagonist runs out of time for getting to the flag in the corn maze, a massive Gotta Sweep (officially named Gotta Reap) will being to destroy the entire maze, before Baldi begins chasing the Protagonist.

Trivia[]
- Baldi seems to be completely unaware that some of his questions cannot be answered. Whether this is actually the case or not is up to debate, though.
- In reality, corporal punishment in schools is illegal except for certain places in Asia, Africa, and the United States.
- Baldi seems to be the only real staff in the school besides Principal of the Thing, Gotta Sweep, Mrs. Pomp and Dr. Reflex. He seems to only really know math and seems to have an obsession with it.
- Baldi has terrible spelling, as evidenced in his books from Classic Remastered
- Baldi is 29 years old (Confirmed by Mystman12 on Livestream).
- Also, Baldi birthday is on June 3rd (Confirmed In Twitter).
- Although the Principal of the Thing becomes the official principal of the schoolhouse, Baldi still calls the school his own. It is possible that Baldi and Principal of the Thing worked together to build the schoolhouse.
- It is unknown how old the Principal of the Thing actually is and why he wants to make school rules that are so different from other schools (for example: no running in the hall and drinking in the hall).
- If the Principal of the Thing is the same age as Baldi or below Baldi's age, such as 28 or 27, then Baldi is older than Principal of the Thing or in other words, the Principal of the Thing is more suitable as a deputy principal than an ordinary principal.
- Although his description says he has an excellent sense of hearing, Baldi does not have visible ears on his model.
- While Baldi moves faster for every problem the Protagonist gets wrong, he slowly reverts to a normal pacing speed depending on how many notebooks was collected as long as the Protagonist avoids him.
- Prior to version 1.3 of Baldi's Basics Classic, Baldi would remain at a fast speed no matter how long the Protagonist avoids him. After twelve or more questions are wrong, Baldi becomes so fast that he could catch up to the Protagonist in seconds.
- Despite the fact that Baldi was chasing the Protagonist only a few moments before, Baldi is very kind towards the Protagonist in the secret endings of Baldi's Basics Classic Remastered after NULL Style is beaten; explaining negative numbers to the Protagonist, playing a special song for him, and allowing him to help him test out his new Shrinking Machine in Classic Style, Party Style, and Demo Style respectively.
- This indicates that Baldi regrets his actions that was too harsh towards the Protagonist, when his Schoolhouse was still being manipulated by Null.
- Baldi appears to be a parody of Slender Man, as both are, tall, thin, bald villains who teleport after the protagonist and who has several pages that the player needs to find.
- Baldi is most likely double-jointed, based off his wave animation.
- According to Mystman12 on Livestream and Twitter, Baldi is 29 years old, so he was most likely born on June 3rd 1970.
- Baldi is similar to a new school villain, Miss Circle, the main antagonist of Fundamental Paper Education music video;
- Both of them are the main antagonists of their respective game/series.
- Both of them are the math teachers.
- They are known to get angry whenever the student gets the wrong answer.
- They both have a group of school staff that can help the two.
- The only two things that sets them apart is their own punishments and ownership;
- Baldi is known to have a ruler in order to hit his students with it when they get their answers wrong, while Miss Circle does it differently and more horrifying way; As shown with Abbie, she uses her compass arm to pierce through his head, hit him with it, and eat his whole body alive.
- Baldi is known to be the owner of his schoolhouse, while Miss Circle is working for the principal named Miss Grace.
