The story of creepy disciplinarian head teacher, Professor Baldi Baldimore, from the titular Baldi's Basics franchise.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

MMM! I love' earth.
~ Baldi eat the earth.

Baldimore first appeared in the comic strip series of the same name. He is an inventor and can create things like Ice Machines and machines to look realistic. In the story, Baldi lives in the Maryland city of Baltimore in the United States and lives with his family - his wife Susan Baldimore and his son Andrew Baldimore. Despite the comic is the background story of Baldi himself, Mystman12 confirmed that he is very unaware of which facts about Baldi are still canon, both from the overall comic strip series and his family; this was confirmed in an interview on gamejolt. Despite this however, there are only six comic strips that are stated to be canon in the game aside from Baldi's Introduction/Comic Made by Baldi, which makes a total of seven comic strips that are canon, as follows:

  • Dr. Reflex: Baldi visits the Baltimore Doctor Office to get his reflex tested. During the appointment with the titular character of comic, the doctor reflex tests on Baldi's knee, causing him to kick out of sudden.
  • Nothing to Eat: One year later, after tested his reflex, Baldi claims that there is nothing to eat, then breaks the fourth wall by looking up at his speech bubble before taking and eating the letter "A" from "eat" and the letter "S" from "is".
  • Baldi Mailbox: Set sometimes after the events of both Dr. Reflex and Nothing to Eat, Baldi does a fourth wall break by telling the reader about the mailbox and how he opens it, by using his teeth.
  • Baldi Cookie: Baldi says his "first" words; "Gimme more cookies". Baldi then gets mad for not having cookies.
  • Baldi Hair: Baldi talks about how he thinks hair is unneeded and unnatural, and then goes on a rampage lighting people's hair on fire.
  • Baldiman: Baldi goes up to a kid and tells him that he can invent anything, and the kid asks him if he could make toenail clippers. Later, Baldi shows his invention, which appears and described by the kid as a jackhammer with a rusty knife glued on. After Baldi says that it will cut off his toes, the kid flees away.

The seven comic strips tell the story of him when he was young. It is heavily implied that after the events of the seven comic strips, Baldi in the game continuity married Susan, as in the Development Build footage Baldi is seen barking at a character who at first glance is potentially none other than Susan. Although the comic strip does not appear in the main game and is considered a placeholder and the character does not have an identity, this suggests that the character could be the game version of Susan from the comic strips.

Baldi in Classic.

At the start of the game, Baldi greets the Explorer Student with a wave and welcomes him to the school. He then lets him find the first notebook, which he will let him take if he does a quick pop quiz. If the player completes the first quiz without getting any problems wrong, Baldi will reward the Explorer Student with a Quarter that can be used later in the game to activate the Noise Phone or to purchase a BSoda from a BSoda Machine.

Angrybaldy

Baldi (angry) in You Can Think Pad.

However, after missing a problem on the next quiz (this is inevitable), Baldi will suddenly become very angry. The notebook will be collected, but Baldi will become enraged and attempt to punish the Explorer Student for getting the problem wrong by chasing him down across the school to beat him with a yardstick and presumably hit him into object. Hearing this, the Explorer Student must complete a quiz every time he attempts to get a notebook. When he gets a problem wrong (this is inevitable again), Baldi will quicken his place and become harder to avoid.

Congratulations, you found all seven notebooks! Now all you need to do is...
GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!
HAHAHAAA!
~ Baldi's villainous breakdown.

After collecting all seven notebooks, Baldi will congratulate the Explorer Student, then scream and threaten him to get out while he still can. He becomes extremely fast, and will constantly be near him. And so, if the Explorer Student is caught by Arts and Crafters during the pursuit, he will be teleported back to the start with Baldi close by, all but guaranteeing a game over. During this time, the exit will constantly appear and disappear in different areas around the school, making escape difficult. However, after the Explorer Student manages to find the exit, he will escape from Baldi and the school and win the game. But after leaving the school, he will hear a mysterious voice that will congratulate him but the mysterious voice tells him to play game even worse because he needs something. The Explorer Student listens to it and to come back the next day.

Secretwall

Baldi in the true ending of Classic.

After completing the game by answering all the math problems wrong, the Explorer Student is transported to Baldi's office, which says to go to Baldi's Office for improvement. Instead of meeting Baldi, he will meet an Entity, which is supposedly behind the mysterious voice, and in front of him is a distorted Baldi. He is behind the Entity. When the Explorer Student approaches the Entity, he will congratulate him for finding this office, but he will tell him not to tell anyone about this game. He asks him to close the game, destroy it, and never play it again. After the Entity finishes talking, the game closes and the Explorer Student is transported back home.

Super Schoolhouse[]

BBP1

Baldi in Plus.

After the events of the original game, at the beginning of the floor, Baldi happily greets and welcomes the Explorer Student to his Super Schoolhouse while inviting him to a game of hide-and-seek. After the player moves at least two tiles away from the starting elevator area, Baldi will cover his eyes and begin to count down from 10. Once the countdown is over, Baldi will hold a ruler in his hand and start chasing the Explorer Student. Strangely, he will also get angry. Like in the original game, the Explorer Student must avoid Baldi and he must pass through three floors in the Super Schoolhouse while being chased by Baldi.

Field Trip[]

Let's go camping!
PlusEarlyAccess3

Baldi in outdoor area, alongside his bus.

If the player picks up an item called the "Bus Pass" in the faculty room on the 2nd floor and after passing through the 2nd floor and exiting the outdoor area, Baldi will appear in front, behind his bus, to the Explorer Student and visit him to join the campsite. After arriving at the campsite, Baldi will introduce the scenery of the campsite and there are two minigames that can be visited.

  • In Campfire Frenzy, Baldi will appear surrounded by mountains and trees. There is also a lit tent on the left and a campfire in the middle. 1st Prize is seen at the bottom of the screen, facing away from the camera and acting as the launcher for the minigame. The player controls 1st Prize and must keep the campfire burning by throwing good fuel at it. If the player successfully keeps the fire alive after 70 tosses, they complete the minigame and will get a trophy with Baldi's face on it. However, if the campfire goes out completely, Baldi will be disappointed and it will result in a game over.
  • In Pick-Quick-Nic, Baldi will appear at the picnic table indicating that he wants to eat. Baldi will think of one or more foods he wants to eat, and the Explorer Student must choose the food that Baldi did not think of once the cover is lifted. The food that the Explorer Student chooses is the one he will eat, not Baldi. If the player completes all 8 rounds, then the minigame will end and the result will say: "I'm stuffed! You are too? Great, now we're ready for a hike!" indicating that Baldi and the Explorer Student are stuffed. However, if the player gets three strikes, the game will end and the result will say: "I'm stuffed! You're still hungry? But we just ate a big lunch!" indicating that the Explorer Student is still hungry.

The Glitch[]

TempMenu Low

Baldi in his office in the ending of Plus.

After the Explorer Student completes all the floors in Hide-and-Seek, he will meet Baldi in his office where he will sing a song while dancing. After the song ends, random parts of the lyrics will play at fast intervals, overlapping each other. The game will then 'pseudo-corrupt' into a distorted, randomly colored BadSum screen.

Demo Style[]

ClassicRemastered12

Baldi in Demo Style of Classic Remastered.

A few months after the events of Plus, when the Explorer Student returns to school, he is greeted again by Baldi, but he refers to the school as a "demo". In this Schoolhouse, he has placed seven Math Machines throughout the classrooms of the Schoolhouse. Each Math Machine has only one question, in which the Explorer Student must pop the correct number balloon into it, which slowly floats around the classroom. If the player answers it correctly, Baldi will become passive for 5 seconds and congratulate the Explorer Student, just like in the original game. However, it will also greatly increase Baldi's anger. Like in the original game, the second Math Machine contains an unsolvable problem: thus, numbers, operations, and question marks become problematic. Baldi will of course become angry. Everything else remains the same.

If the player is able to answer all the Math Machines correctly and then answer 6 bonus questions correctly, the Explorer Student will be given a Portal Poster, where he will then need to use it in the classroom with the Safety Scissors poster in it. This will reveal a ladder leading to Baldi's Basement. When the Explorer Student enters a room with a shrink machine in it, the Entity will appear behind him, asking him why he hasn't destroyed the game yet, before going on to explain that he knows that he want to figure out the game's lore. However, the Entity tells him to stop doing that and that for once he should listen to him. Also, the Entity tell the Explorer Student that he doesn't have a real name. So, the most logical thing to call him is "Null". Finally, the Entity, now revealed to be Null, tells the Explorer Student that he is fed up with everyone playing Baldi's Basics and that though he could get in trouble for it. Null decides to force the game to close.

Birthday Bash[]

BirthdayBash2

Baldi in Birthday Bash.

One year later after the event of Demo Style. In celebratory to the one-year anniversary of the original game, Baldi invites the Explorer Student back to the school. Much like before, he will still chasing him after getting a question wrong. But once all seven notebooks are collected, Baldi and the other residents of Schoolhouse shout "Surprise!" once the Explorer Student reaches the cafeteria exit.

Baldi tells the Explorer Student to step on a lift and blow out the candle on a large cake. Once the candle is blown out, the lights dim and everyone is lifted into the air, forcing the Explorer Student to a hallway full of glitched rooms.

Normal Ending[]

ThanksBasics

Baldi and other of Schoolhouse in the normal ending of Birthday Bash.

The glitched rooms contain corrupted files resembling colored Baldis that do not harm the Explorer Student. One of these rooms is Baldi's Office. He must count the Baldis based on their color in buttons in one room littered with balloons; should him do it correctly, Baldi shouts "Wow!" before a room opens. Stepping into the room spawns multiple hostile colored versions of Baldi, forcing the Explorer Student to run. Once enough time has passed, a distorted "Thank you" screen appears featuring Baldi and the others.

Alternate/True Ending[]

An alternate ending can be found if the player was to use a "Dangerous Teleporter" to get back to the first floor. However, obtaining the teleporter is very hard, as this item has a very low spawn rate, and can only be obtained from the vending machines. Once inside the Principal's Office, the Explorer Student will find Null again in the office, who will once again congratulate him in finding him, before he telling him to destroy the game once again.

The Remorseful[]

Congratulations! You found all seven notebooks! Now all you need to do is...
Find a way out before I catch you!
HAHAAA!
~ Baldi threatening the Explorer Student once he has collected all of the seven notebooks, without being manipulated by Null.

After the NULL Style/Glitch Style are defeated, Baldi's initially cruel and abusive behavior finally ends for years. There are 3 new secret endings that can be accessed after the player reaches the exit:

  • First New Secret Ending

Baldi in his office, telling the Explorer Student how negetive numbers work.

In Classic Style, Baldi will stand near the desk and teach the Explorer Student subtraction problems, especially negative numbers.
  • Second New Secret Ending

Baldi in the Principal's office, ready to have the Explorer Student listen to his "Funtime Song", which can be drowned out by the ambience.

In Party Style, After entering the glitched school and using the Dangerous Teleporter to go down and enter the Principal's office, Baldi will be there and play "Baldi's Funtime Song" for the Explorer Student to listen to, as a surprise.
  • Third New Secret Ending

    Baldi in his basement room.

In Demo Style, After entering the room with the shrink machine, Baldi will open the door of his shrink machine and ask for the Explorer Student's help to test it by pressing a button. After he presses the button, the machine will run, but it ends up with an explosion. Baldi returns looking messy after the door opens and says that the machine still needs repairing.
  • Overall, when all seven notebooks are collected in any of the three game modes, the shout "GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!" will be replaced by Baldi saying "Find a way out before I catch you!" after a short pause.

Related Media and Spin-Offs[]

Field Trip Demo[]

In the minigame, Baldi takes the Explorer Student camping in the woods and leaves him to gather sticks for the campfire as he goes set up bear traps. If the fire goes out before time runs out, Baldi spawns at the campfire and almost immediately catches the player. Currently, the game is still in under-development.

Public Demo[]

In the public demo for the full game, Baldi wants to play hide-and-seek with the player, and chases after them once they walk a good distance away. Much like the original game, as the player collects notebooks, Baldi gets much faster, until his speed becomes so fast that it becomes almost impossible to escape without a strategy.

In one of the random events, Baldi breaks his ruler, causing the player to stop hearing him approach for several seconds. If the player has collected an apple by the time Baldi catches them, he will eat the apple, stopping for ten seconds to eat before continuing chasing the player.

Kickstarter Exclusive Demo[]

In the Kickstarter Exclusive demo, Baldi will behave exactly the same in the Public Demo. The player will have to beat him at Hide-and-Seek in 3 different floors in the Super Schoolhouse. After this is done, the player will be taken to a black room, with Baldi standing before them. Turning around will reveal text saying:

"Some day, you will get the satisfying, canonical, and exciting ending that you deserve."

"Today is not that day."

When the player turns back around, Baldi will dab for a few seconds, before the game ends.

In the demo's new Farm field trip, if the player runs out of time for getting to the flag in the corn maze, a massive Gotta Sweep (officially named Gotta Reap) will being to destroy the entire maze, before Baldi begins chasing the player.

References in non-Baldi's Basics media[]

Strange Terror From The Deep[]

In the indie horror game Strange Terror From The Deep, Baldi appeared as one of the enemies. Mystman12 provided the voice dialogue for him.

Advanced Education with Viktor Strobovski[]

In Advanced Education with Viktor Strobovski, a horror game inspired by Baldi's Basics, Baldi makes multiple cameo appearances:

  • In the history level, there is a book named "BBiEaL" (with the quotation marks), which is short for the original game, Baldi's Basics in Education and Learning. It is a pink book with a sprite of Baldi on it. When given to Erie, she will complain about it.
  • In an inaccessible area in the language level, there are multiple props, along with a static sprite of Baldi.
  • There is a joke item, which can only be found in test maps, called "Pocket bald", which uses a slightly distorted sprite of Baldi. When not in inventory, this item slowly duplicates itself, which can eventually freeze or crash the game.
    • There is an achievement called "bald", given when throwing the item into a cauldron.
  • In the joke "beta01" version, a rotated sprite of Baldi replaces the smile wolf, who occasionally appears in a blocked off hallway (meaning he can only be seen through a window).

Night of the Consumers[]

In the PS1-inspired indie horror game Night of the Consumers, Baldi makes a cameo as a plush in the left pocket of the backpack in the beginning.

Boofie's Bunker[]

Baldi also appears as an Easter egg character in Boofie's Bunker, a game made by JayskiBean. Mystman12 also did voice acting for this character.
