~ Bale taunting Tilda. |
Bale is a supporting character in the AMC series Into the Badlands.
He is Colt training to become a Clipper in the Armadillo Territory. While in the Colt pits, he meets M.K., and the two becomes friends who agree to watch each other's backs while training. Despite generally being an ally to M.K., Bale is shown to be violent and sadistic to the enemies of Baron Quinn, just like the other Colts and Clippers.
He was portrayed by Benjamin Papac, who also played Albert in The Walking Dead.
Personality[]
Bale was generally polite and friendly to those around him, so long as they were other Colts. He immediately formed an alliance with M.K. when they met in the Colt pits, initially for the simple pragmatic reason of them watching each others back, but eventually forming a genuine friendship with him. Bale was shown to enjoy sparring with M.K., and was shown to not be intimidated by M.K. after he was taken on as a Colt by Sunny, the best Clipper in the Badlands, as the two of them still remained friends. Despite this, Bale still had a high capacity for violence, as seen when Sunny caught Tilda, the daughter of rival Baron the Widow. Bale taunted and insulted Tilda in an attempt to impress the Clipper who took him on as a Colt, leading to Tilda biting off a piece of Bale's ear. Bale was extremely vengeful over this, wanting to torture information on the Widow's whereabouts out of her, and nearly beating her to death when she tried to escape.
Biography[]
Meeting M.K.[]
As a child, Bale was a Cog slave in the Armadillo Territory, but once he became a teenager he was given an opportunity to become a Colt, who could one day serve as a Clipper that fought for Baron Quinn, and therefore got to live a much better life than the Cog's working in the fields. When M.K. joined the Colt pits, another Colt named Ajax stole his necklace, leading to a fight which was stopped by Sunny, who confiscated the necklace. Bale saw this and warned M.K. to stay away from Colts like Ajax, as they intentionally act violent with the hopes of being taken on as a student by a Clipper. Bale said he would watch M.K.'s back if M.K. watched his, which he agreed to. Later, Bale told M.K. where he would have to sneak into to retrieve his necklace, although he urged him that it was a bad idea. After M.K. eventually returned to the Colt pits after being taken on as a student by Sunny, he and Bale sparred together.
Feud with Tilda and death[]
Bale was later taken on a scouting mission with his Clipper, Sunny, and M.K., where they caught Tilda, the Widow's daughter. Sunny asked her for information on the Widow's whereabouts which she refused to give, then beginning to fake cry in order to get their guards down. In an attempt to impress his Clipper, Bale threatened Tilda and called her a bitch, prompting her to bite off a piece of his ear. The group then took her back to Quinn's fort and interrogated her in the dungeons, but before Sunny could begin torturing her for information the group was attacked by the Widow, who was there to rescue Tilda. While Sunny fought the Widow, Tilda attempted to escape, only to be stopped by Bale, prompting to the two to begin fighting. M.K., who had a secret romance with Tilda, tried to stop Bale, causing Bale to lock M.K. in a nearby cell and begin violently kicking Tilda out of revenge for biting his ear. M.K., who was secretly a Dark One, cut himself in order to activate his dark chi powers known as the Gift, allowing him to break out of the cell and kill Bale, saving Tilda. Later, when Sunny meets with the River King, he gave him Bale's head and lied saying that it was M.K.'s, as the River King wanted M.K. dead for destroying one of his cargo shipments. The River King initially believes this, and grants Sunny and his companions safe passage out of the Badlands.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Martial Arts/Swordsmanship: Due to being a Colt, Bale trained regularly, and was taught a brutal and aggressive style. Bale was proficient enough in combat to defeat Tilda, despite Tilda being trained by a Baron.
Trivia[]
- In Season 3, the River King lambasts Sunny for trying to trick him and giving him the head of a different boy from M.K., despite their agreement that Sunny would clip M.K. as payment for passage out of the Badlands, when the River King tells him this, Sunny expresses disgust for both the River King and his past self, suggesting he regretted decapitating Bale.
