Banapur Khan is a minor antagonist in Marvel Comics. He serves as a minor antagonist in the 1988 Wolverine comic run, serving as the main antagonist of the chapter "Sword Quest." He is a ruthless Indonesian pirate and the leader of his crew.
Biography[]
Banapur and his crew prey on refugee groups fleeing Cambodia and Vietnam where they then strip them of all their possessions. Banapur first appears when he has 201 people held hostage from a plane he and his crew had hijacked. There he does his usual routine on them, slaughtering the men, allowing and having his men rape all the women, and sells the survivors to the local slave traders for profit.
Banapur is also seen personally decapitating the captain while making the survivors watch. Banapur then approaches two of the female survivors and subtly threatens them by saying that if he is such an ogre “D’you think it is wise to make me angry?”.
Banapur is also shown to be holding a man named Kojuma Noburo captive in his boat, who he had tortured. Banapur and his men then find Wolverine on the boat and Banapur then sends his crew after Wolverine. Wolverine then proceeds to kill the entire pirate crew except for Banapur himself. Banapur then calls out the pirates' names out of fear before being cornered by Wolverine.
Banapur then holds a knife to a woman’s throat and threatens to slit her throat if Wolverine takes another step. He then takes her on his boat and states that the woman will “keep him company” before eventually selling her off to slavers. Banapur then drives away from Wolverine, hoping to get away with his actions. Banapur is then shot dead by one of the women on the plane he held hostage, avenging the captain he had killed.
It is then revealed that Banapur was hired by the Cult of the Black Blade to torture Kojuma Noburo for information so he could help them find the Muramasa Blade. Kojuma then later dies due to the stress of the torture.
