~ Banbaleena, starting her class. |
Banbaleena is a major antagonist in the 2023 indie-horror game series Garten of Banban.
She is voiced by Hayah Amgad.
Appearance[]
Banbaleena is a tall, white, horned humanoid with a purple bow around her left horn. Her monstrous form produced by the kindergarten seems to have pink makeup around her eyes and mouth.
Dying to Banbaleena will cause her eyes to turn red, with black streaks of an unidentified liquid running down them.
Personality[]
While Banbaleena's intended personality is unknown due to the original depictions being relegated to murals, she can be inferred to be kind, gentle and caring, as shown by her motto being "Kindness is free so sprinkle it everywhere".
The Banbaleena seen in the events of the game is a far cry from what her fictional counterpart is supposed to be. She casually mentions murdering and consuming human body parts (specifically the brain), kills the protagonist for answering wrong, and mentions that if they are late again, she will "rip [them] to pieces", displaying that Banbaleena is more that willing to commit murder. She also expresses disgust with the "unpopular students", and calls all of her students "stupid" during the beginning of her third lesson. She seems to get impatient rather quickly, as she kills the protagonist if they do not sit down in time.
Biography[]
Garten of Banban I[]
While Banbaleena isn't physically seen, there is a mural of her about how kindness is free and that you should sprinkle it everywhere.
Garten of Banban II[]
While being chased down a hallway by Opila Bird, Banbaleena calls out the protagonist to come into her classroom. Upon doing so, three tables are seen, with varying objects sitting in the seats around them: one with bowling pins (the mean kids), one with rusty watering cans (the unpopular kids), and one with basketballs wearing sunglasses (the cool kids). After instructing the protagonist to sit down with the unpopular kids, Banbaleena begins her lesson in math, necessitating the protagonist to reply to her questions using tape recorders with various responses left on them. After getting all the questions right, the lesson ends and lunchtime begins, where the protagonist rescues one of the unpopular "kids" to acquire a pair of sunglasses. The sunglasses make Banbaleena think the protagonist is a cool kid, and she begins the science lesson with the same mechanics as the last lesson. After the lesson, another break begins and a bowling pin is acquired, making Banbaleena think the protagonist is a mean kid.
After all 3 lessons, the lights go dark and a noise occurs, making Banbaleena think it was a new student and goes to investigate. This allows the protagonist to sneak out of the class, frustrating Banbaleena and saying she "tried so hard to be a good teacher." At the end of the game, Banbaleena reappears during "assembly time", and gives chase to the protagonist, claiming that they've "been a bad student". Escaping through Opila Bird's door, Banbaleena and an unscathed Jumbo Josh try to hunt down the protagonist.
Eventually, Banbaleena can be led to a large yellow "X" with a door above. Luring Banbaleena to this location causes Jumbo Josh to mistakenly crush her, carrying her high above the facility.
Garten of Banban III[]
It is revealed that Banbaleena survived being crushed by Jumbo Josh, and she greets the protagonist after the latter wakes up in the Jumbo Josh Lounge with her and Nabnab. Banbaleena says that Jumbo Josh likes to keep things unchanged and that the lights will change color when he's near. The protagonist then completes several puzzles while avoiding Jumbo Josh via sitting on the chairs in the lounge when he appears. At one point during this sequence, Banbaleena gets up to write a nonsensical math equation on the whiteboard, which the protagonist must erase.
After unlocking the door, Banbaleena leaves the lounge and walks back to the elevator. If the protagonist follows her there, Banbaleena comments that she hopes they will come back to her classroom for her fourth lesson, and that she doesn't want them to miss it.
Garten of Banban IV[]
Sometime later, Banbaleena was captured by Sheriff Toadster and placed in one of his holding cells, which the protagonist can view. According to her archive report, Banbaleena was initially hostile towards Toadster, as she was in the process of finding a missing student when he encountered her. She attempted to escape several times, but was eventually calmed after several bowling pins were placed in her cell. Since then, Banbaleena sits in the cell's corner, muttering "I can't be late" to herself repeatedly.
Garten of Banban VI[]
After the collapse of the fourth floor and the release of The Naughty Ones, Banbaleena escapes captivity and soon takes refuge with the protagonist and Sheriff Toadster in the storage bay. She appears unaware that Toadster was responsible for her imprisonment, stating that she "didn't get a good look" at who attacked her. Referring to her as "Mrs. Mason", Toadster encourages Banbaleena to rest while the protagonist explores the area.
After returning to the storage bay with Bittergiggle, the protagonist finds that Banbaleena and Toadster have erected barricades against the Naughty Ones. After Toadster denounces the protagonist, Banbaleena is suddenly attacked and dragged away into the darkness by one of the Naughty Ones. She later appears as one of the brainwashed mascots in Sir Dadadoo's army that confront the protagonist and Banban at the chapter's end.

Trivia[]
- Her design is intentionally very similar to Banban.
- When the protagonist skips school, a basketball representing the popular kid tells them not to snitch about them skipping school. After the protagonist completes the game, the popular kid can be seen in the Naughty Corner, upset that the protagonist snitched on them.
- Since the protagonist skipped Banbaleena's lesson, her lesson about killing humans and extracting their brains was never discussed, confirming that it's about human murder and cannibalism.
- On the cake near the end of Garten of Banban II, a golden topper of Banban and Banbaleena dancing atop it can be found. This, combined with their similar names and designs, may suggest that the characters, at least in-universe, may be married. However, Banbaleena cruelly and angrily smashed the cake due to her poor relationship with Banban.
- It was theorized that her genome donor was Weverly Mason since both of them are teachers. This theory was confirmed by Sheriff Toadster in Garten of Banban VI.
