The Band of Seven (known as the Shichintai in Japanese) are the main antagonists of the Mt. Hakurei arc in the manga/anime series Inuyasha. They are a group of seven murderous mercenaries led by Bankotsu and were resurrected by Naraku to serve as a distraction while he rested in Mt. Hakurei.

They are notable for being normal human mercenaries (with the exception of Ginkotsu and Kyōkotsu) whose raw skills put Inuyasha and his friends into absolute desperation, a feat only few villains could ever achieve.

Trivia[]

  • All of the members tend to have the word "Kotsu" by the end of their names.
  • Each of the members embodies the seven deadly sins:
    • For Bankotsu, it is pride. Due to being the leader of the band, Bankotsu tends to be a big talker and has the strength and skills to match.
    • For Renkotsu, it is greed. He's heavily obsessed with becoming immortal and has no qualms on betraying the Band to get what he desires.
    • For Jakotsu, it is mainly envy. Although he has a lustful attraction on Inuyasha, it's more about wanting to kill him than any sexual lust. As a result, he envies those who interfere with his fight against Inuyasha.
    • For Suikotsu, it is sloth. Despite being a dangerous killer, Suikotsu's good side causes his evil side to be unwilling to kill anyone. His evil side does carry the sin of wrath though.
    • For Ginkotsu, it is wrath. Ginkotsu is always seen to be in an angry state and doesn't express any other emotions than just anger.
    • For Mukotsu, it is lust. Mukotsu is heavily obsessed with Kagome and is intent on marrying her.
    • And finally, for Kyōkotsu, it is gluttony. Kyōkotsu tends to devour a lot of demons and has even possibly devoured humans as well. It probably also explains where his immense size comes from.
