The Bandits are the secondary antagonists of the 2019 role-playing video game Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling. They are an organization of thieves of various species, led by Astotheles, who live the life of crime in hopes of surviving in the unforgiving lands of the Lost Sands.

Biography[]

Bandits were first encountered in Chapter 3: Factory Investigation. When Team Snakemouth meets Gen and Eri escorting the travelling caravan, bandits, together with Wasp Kingdom scouts, ambush them, trying to rob the caravan and get rid of Team Snakemouth to prevent them from interfering with the Wasp Kingdom's plans. However, they were defeated and forced to retreat.

Later, in Chapter 4: Mysterious Lost Sands, bandits become more common, appearing as regular enemies across the entire Lost Sands. When Astotheles sells Team Snakemouth the key to the Bandit Hideout, luring them into a trap with the piece of the Sand Castle Key as a bait, the bandits ambush them en-masse, steal their possessions and lock them into the prison. But, thanks to Kabbu knowing how to dig, Team Snakemouth escapes the captivity. Meanwhile, the Wasps refused to pay the bandits despite promising to do so earlier, and, after Team Snakemouth retrieves their possessions and defeats Astotheles in an honorable battle, he allows them to leave unharmed and lets them have the key piece, hoping they would defeat the Wasp Kingdom and punish them for their treachery.

Bandits are also featured in various sidequests, such as "Bandit Hunt", where Ven requests Team Snakemouth to defeat twenty bandits of any kind as revenge for them mutilating his fiancée; "Stolen Item", where Kali asks the team to retrieve her stolen silk from Bandit Hideout; "Huuuuuuuuuu...!!!", where Tanjerin asks them to return his broken horn that was stolen by bandits for unclear reasons; and "Help me Get it Back!", where Mun, after being harassed by bandits who stole his friend's mask, asks Team Snakemouth to help them retrieve it and defeat the bandits.

Bestiary Entries[]

Thief[]

These Dragonfly thieves lurk within the Lost Sands. The buss their wings produce while flying hinders their sneakiness, yet their Mug Tackle is 100% effective. Voted the cutest members of the desert bandits, the other members make sure the Dragonflies eat first during times of scarcity.
~ Thieves' bestiary entry.
Darn! That flying thief keeps stealing my favorite snacks! And I can't reach him at all... Quick, team! We must defeat him before he uses them for himself!
~ Kabbu's spy notes on a Thief.
A thief!? There's nothing worse in the world! The nerve to steal my hard-earned treasure! I'm gonna knock 'em out of the air and take everything he's stolen!
~ Vi's spy notes on a Thief.
Adorable. We've never seen a flying thief before. He steals food before anything else. Maybe if we give him enough of Kabbu's snacks, he will join us? ...Let's defeat him quickly.
~ Leif's spy notes on a Thief.

Bandit[]

These Cricket bandits spark fear amongst all caravans traveling through the harsh desert. They are ruthless and efficient, and they have no intent to negotiate. They change completely when amongst their brethren. They act like older siblings to the Dragonflies, and even enjoy gardening.
~ Bandits' bestiary entry.
Hmph, a Cricket bandit. It has been a long time since we encountered each other. Be ready, you rascal. My strength is far greater than you remember!
~ Kabbu's spy notes on a Bandit.
Eep! I-It's a bandit! I'm not gonna let him get near our bag. No way! Maybe I'll just let Kabbu take the hits while I throw my Beemerang at 'em. W-Wait... What if they steal my Beemerang? I hope I'm not worrying too much...
~ Vi's spy notes on a Bandit
So this is a bandit. Can't say we've seen one before. Times must have gotten rough. As long as we deal with them quickly, we have no need to worry over our possessions. Let's freeze it in its tracks.
~ Leif's spy notes on a Bandit.

Burglar[]

These Ladybugs turned to crime after their exile, doing little to improve their already poor reputation. They still dream of returning to the Ant Kingdom, despite their crimes. It's undeniable, however, that their actions only make that dream stray further away.
~ Burglars' bestiary entry.
This burglar... Must he be like this? Have Ladybugs not been tarnished enough? We can't afford to feel sorry for him, though, for he is fast and strong... We must stay firm and fight back!
~ Kabbu's spy notes on a Burglar.
Ugh... This is bad. Burglars are the worst! I can't believe how fast they can tackle, being so big...They're tough and good at stealing too... I hate them! Let's finish this quick!
~ Vi's spy notes on a Burglar.
Burglars... It's a shame how Bugaria seems so unsafe these days... We won't show mercy. We'll teach them a lesson they won't forget.
~ Leif's spy notes on a Burglar.

Trivia[]

  • The Bandits' emblem is an upside-down variant of the Ant Kingdom's symbol, representing Astotheles' resentment towards Queen Elizant II.
