The Bandits, also known as the Bandidos, are the main antagonists in the 2014 animated film The Book of Life. They are an organization of Mexican metal hat-wearing and mechanical-limbed desperados who serve Chakal, the King of the Bandits.
Biography[]
While their past and on when they formed is unknown, but under the leadership of their king Chakal, the Banditos would go from town to town plundering and looking for the Medal Of Everlasting Life to make Chakal immortal and an unstoppable force.
None of the bandits were called by their names (except for Chakal) throughout the entire film, but wanted posters of them can be seen in the background with each of their names listed.
Even though Chakal and Chato were the only bandits who were seen talking on-screen, one of the bandits who was not on-screen said to Joaquin that no one is as big as Chakal.
Following a fight between Manolo Sanchez and Joaquin Mondragon, whom both are childhood friends and rivals, the Banditos invaded the town of San Ángel and robbed the people of their possessions in accordance with a list Chakal provided on what they should steal. However, their rampage proved to be short-lived as Joaquin arrived and single-handedly defeated them with little effort, thanks to the power of the Medal of Everlasting Life, which in his possession after he was gifted it by the deity Xibalba.
However, the Banditos discovered this, and this was reported to Chakal, who decided to invade San Ángel and steal the Medal from Joaquin. When they arrived with Chakal, they were met with resistance from the townspeople, who were encouraged to stand against Chakal by Maria Posada, who realize that they are only after Joaquin's medal. Though Joaquin managed to hold his own against Chakal, he ended up losing the medal, leaving him powerless.
With Joaquin's defeat, Chakal and the Banditos successfully claimed the Medal of Everlasting Life, and though they appear to be triumphant, however, they lose the medal, when Manolo returns from the Land of the Remembered. The Banditos and Chakal proceeded to battle against the people of San Ángel but were overpowered.
After Chakal was defeated by Manolo, the Banditos were forced to flee from the town for good and were never seen again after that. Due to the loss of Chakal, their current fate is unknown.
