The Bank Robbers are minor antagonists in season one of AMC's The Walking Dead and serve as the main antagonists in the pilot episode "Days Gone Bye".
Criminal #1 was portrayed by Tommie Mack Turvey, Criminal #2 was portrayed by Chick Bernhardt, and Criminal #3 was portrayed by Brent Bernhard.

Sometime before the events of the first episode, the bank robbers planned and committed a bank robbery in which none of them were willing to surrender. According to a dispatcher, one of these three men shot and wounded a police officer in Lincoln County, Georgia.
Days Gone By[]
While police officers Rick Grimes and Shane Walsh are eating in their squad car, they are notified about two violent criminals coming their way. Rick and Shane drive to an ambush point where they set up a spike strip and eventually, the criminals drive over it and crash in a field.
Rick, Shane, and several other officers aim their guns at the flipped car and order the men to step outside without their guns, however the first criminal climbs out of the wreckage with a pistol and shoots Rick in the chest. Shane and the other officers gun him down as well as the second armed man and thankfully, Rick had been wearing a bullet proof vest which merely knocked the wind out of him. Unbeknownst to all of the other officers and Shane, a third criminal was actually hiding within the car and sneaks out to shoot Rick in the side, and in return he is also shot to death by Shane and every other officer present.
Trivia[]
- The bank robbers are the first human deaths within the show.
- It's never specified within the show what crime the three men had committed, but it was confirmed by other sources to have been a bank robbery. This would explain why the dispatcher was unaware of a third man in the car due to him being a potential getaway driver and never actually stepping foot in the bank robbed by the first two men.
- This was confirmed by Brent Bernhard himself in an interview with The Walking Dead Wiki. [1]
- The last criminal shot by Shane and the other officers is indirectly responsible for several key events in the first two seasons of The Walking Dead, those being Rick falling into a coma before the apocalypse, Shane dating Lori believing Rick was dead, and the eventual breaking of their friendship ending in Rick killing Shane.
- These three men are the only antagonists in The Walking Dead to only play a part before events the apocalypse. It's unknown if any of them became Walkers after dying, though it is possible since none of them were shot in the head.
- However, it's also equally unlikely since several months passed between Rick being shot and the apocalypse starting, so they most likely would've been buried by the state or their families by that point.
- Brent Bernhard has actually appeared as a Walker at least twice during the events of season three, being killed by Lauren Cohan (Maggie) and Laurie Holden (Andrea).
- The guns used by the bank robbers consist of a SIG-Sauer P228 (Criminal 1), a Mossberg 590 (Criminal 2), and a Colt M1911A1 (Criminal 3).
- The comic book series counterpart to all three of these men would be Reggie.
- The first criminal's appearance closely resembles Reggie.
- The second criminal uses a shotgun like Reggie.
- The third criminal shoots Rick like Reggie did.
