Bara Brain is the psychic and mind-themed Machine Beast of the Machine Empire Baranoia and a supporting antagonist in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger.
He is voiced by the late Kaneto Shiozawa who was best known as M'Quve from Mobile Suit Gundam, Gray Fox in Metal Gear Solid, and Biznella from Seijuu Sentai Gingaman.
Biography[]
Past[]
As with all members of the Machine Empire Baranoia, Bara Brain was built by Emperor Bacchus Wrath and Empress Hysteria some 65 million years ago. Unlike any other Machine Beasts, Bara Brain was built with his own Machine Beast; being able to detatch his right eye to form a massive mindless Machine Beast that he controlled called Bara Separate. Regarded as the cream of all Machine Beasts, along with the rest of the Machine Beasts, Bara Brain and Bara Separate helped them to devastate and conquer multiple planets.
Ohranger[]
Millions of years later, in 1995, Emperor Bacchus Wrath and his Empire return to Earth and launch an invasion of Earth where they rally thier forces but the Ohrangers arise to oppose them.
After multiple Machine Beasts are killed, Empress Hysteria learns that the Ohrangers are building the Chouriki Mobiles to oppose the Baranoia. As such, she sends Bara Brain to find and kidnap Chief Counsellor Miura to discover the location so that the Takonpas can destroy the hanger. Using his mental powers, Bara Brain torments Muira with images of his friend's daughter Mitsuko begging for his help. The next day, he sends Barlo Soldiers to keep Goro busy whilst he confronts Muira and Mitsuko before possessing Mitsuko and kidnapping Muira. After the Ohrangers defeat the Barlo Soldiers, Bara Brain sends his right eye to merge with different buildings and form Bara Separate. Later, Bara Brain ties Muira up at the beach and tells him to either reveal the location of the Chouriki Mobiles or he will kill Mitsuko and use Bara Separate to destroy Tokyo.
When Muira refuses, Bara Brain torments him by having his daughter call him a hypocrite and generating an illusion of his dead friend until Yuji and Momo deploy in thier Chouriki Mobiles to stop the destruction. Frustrated and determined to stop the others from being completed, Bara Brain threatens Mitsuko's life if Muira doesn't tell him where the Chouriki Mobiles are and tortures her as he watches. When he still doesn't talk, Bara Brain exits her body and tries to choke the answer out of Muira only to be shot by Goro in his jet and knocked over by rocks from Juri and Shouhei. Summoning more Barlo Soldiers and taking Mitsuko hostage, he tries to kill them with Takonpas and then sends his Barlo Soldiers but they are defeated so he summons Bara Separate.
Despite this, Juri rescues Mitsuko although Bara Brain and his forces are able to re-capture Muira and retreat. Bara Separate then resumes its rampage with the aid of some Takonpas as Acha and Kocha threaten to destroy Tokyo and Bara Brain promises to kill Muira if they don't surrender. Empress Hysteria, Prince Buldont and Acha and Kocha then arrive with Hysteria about to kill Muira only to be stopped by the arriving salvo from the completed Chouriki Mobiles. Frustrated, Bara Brain summons more Takonpas and even pilots one of his own against Sky Phoenix only to soon abandon the attempt. He then uses Bara Separate to fight the Chouriki Mobiles but the giant Machine Beast is killed by Ohranger Robo with Bara Brain going down with it because thier shared mind means that its fatal damage is reflected on him as well.
Legacy[]
Despite his death, Bara Brain's use of Bara Separate inspired Bacchus Wrath to start making his Machine Beasts giant. To this effect, he upgraded Acha and Kocha with a growth program that was first used to enlarge Bara Missiler.
The destroyed shell of Bara Brain is scrapped and thrown in the Baranoian scrapheap where it is seen when angry pieces of machinery form Bara Revenger although Bara Brain's shell does not fuse with him.
Personality[]
Bara Brain was a ruthless and sadistic Machine Beast who tormented Muira by making him think "his niece" Mitsuko was in danger and he was willing to threaten Mitsuko's life to get what he wanted.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Durability: Bara Brain survived being shot dozens of times by Goro's jet fighter and was unfazed by Shouhei and Juri dropping boulders down on top of him.
- Non-Ageing: Due to being a robot, Bara Brain was unable to age.
- Depth Perception: Bara Brain had depth perception despite only having one working eye.
- Mental Abilities: Bara Brain had multiple superhuman mental abilities that he could utilise through his eyes that made him formidable.
- Bara Psychic: Bara Brain was able to try and track Chief Counsellor Miura with just his mind.
- Psychic Power: Bara Brain could reach his right hand forward to send Muira flying back.
- Bara Telepathy: Bara Brain was able to communicate with and threat Muira with just his mind.
- Mental Illusions: By flashing his right eye, Bara Brain could make Muira see false illusions of Mitsuko.
- Mental Restraint: Bara Brain could use his abilities to make Muira seize up and stop him from moving.
- Bara Psychic: Bara Brain was able to try and track Chief Counsellor Miura with just his mind.
- Eye Blasts: Bara Beain could detach both his eyes, send his spirit into them and unleash two blue energy blasts from both.
- Possession: Bara Brain could also possess beings at will by spraying thier brain with lightning from his left eye as seen with Mitsuko.
- Machine Beast Creation: Bara Brain was able to detach and enlarge his right "eye" to make it absorb nearby buildings and form Bara Separate.
- Energy Screen: As seen when he was making his demands to Muira, Bara Brain could point and generate TV-like screens on flat surfaces.
- Barlo Soldier Summoning: Bara Brain could summon Barlo Soldiers to aid him in battle.
- Takonpas Summoning: Bara Brain could also summon Takonpas to aid him by shouting thier name.
- Expert Fighter Pilot: Bara Brain was a skilled fighter pilot since he proved to be very capable in his Takonpas.
Weaknesses[]
- Inoffensive: All of Bara Brain's powers were strictly utilitarian and he was unable to fight himself so he required Bara Separate and the Barlo Soldiers to fight instead.
- Bara Separate Connection: Although he had complete control over Bara Separate, thier minds were linked so the Machine Beast's death also killed Bara Brain.

- Fists: Bara Brain had no weapons of his own but could use his bare hands in combat.
- Takonpas: Bara Brain flew his own Takonpas against Sky Phoenix until it was shot down.

Trivia[]
- Due to appearing almost exclusively as Mitsuko or around Muira, Bara Brain was not adapted into Power Rangers Zeo.
- However, Bara Separate was adapted as Staroid although he was made a completely independent monster.
