Bara Cactus 1 is one of the two cactus-themed Machine Beasts of the Machine Empire Baranoia serving Emperor Bacchus Wrath and a minor antagonist in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger, serving as the main antagonist of the fifth episode.
He is voiced by Masashi Sugawara who also voices the Bugsters in Karmen Rider Ex-Aid.
Biography[]
Past[]
As with all members of the Machine Empire Baranoia, Bara Cactus 1 was built by Emperor Bacchus Wrath and Empress Hysteria some 65 million years ago on Planet Baranoia. Unlike any other Machine Beast, Bara Cactus had an almost identical twin named Bara Cactus 2 that he saw as his brother. Along with the rest of the Machine Beasts and the Barlo Soldiers, Bara Cactus 1 and 2 helped them to devastate and conquer multiple planets.
Ohranger[]
Millions of years later, in 1999, Bacchus Wrath and his Empire return to Earth and launch an invasion of Earth but the Ohrangers arise to oppose them.
After the failure of the initial invasion and Bara Crusher, Bacchus Wrath summons Bara Cactus 1 and 2 to use thier pollen to turn all humans into machine people so they can be easily conquered. Once transformed, the machine people can take on the attributes of objects (such as super intelligence from computers or flame breath from cookers). He is first seen ambushing Takeshi and his older brother Tsuyoshi but ends up fighting Yuji who had arrived to help the two when they had a fight. Despite this, Bara Cactus 1 is able to overwhelm them and blast them with his corruptive pollen but Yuji shoots the Machine Beast with his King Blaster which allows them to flee. The next day, Bara Cactus 1 returns by hiding underground so that only his flowers are exposed and blasting two people before meeting up with his brother to attack Yuji after Prince Buldont reveals the plan. Together, they overwhelm Yuji until the other Ohrangers arrive but the Bara Cacti are still too much with them taking down all five with a devastating vault attack. However, they manage to fail with a second attack after Bara Cactus 2 trips and Bacchus Wrath forcibly withdraws them when Bara Cactus 1 is distracted by Takeshi's brother Tsuyoshi getting injured.
Despite this, Bara Cactus is confused by the compassion which Bacchus Wrath explains as brotherly love and the Machine Beast begins to express it for Bara Cactus 2 but the Emperor knocks down the Machine Beast and demands that he abandon those emotions by holding Bara Cactus 2 at spear-point. Although Bara Cactus defends his brother from the Barlo Soldiers, both are blasted down and he is forced to return to Earth and continue the plan to save Bara Cactus 2's life. Upon his return, Bara Cactus fights four of the Ohrangers (Yuji having gone after Takeshi and Tsuyoshi) and easily defeats them until they take him down using thier personal weapons only for Takashi to arrive and blast them down.
With the upper-hand once again, Bara Cactus easily beats them until a now redeemed Takeshi works with Tsuyoshi and Yuji to use the discarded Star Riser to impale and throw down the Machine Beast. They then seemingly kill the weakened Machine Beast with the King Smashers which undoes his machine person conversion. Despite this, Bara Cactus survives and returns to the Baranoia Palace but he finds that, whilst he was on Earth, Bacchus Wrath decided to uncover the secrets of his Machine Beast feeling human emotions and had Bara Cactus 2 killed and dissected since he shares the same mechanical structure as his brother. Bara Cactus immediately mourns his brother only to be killed by Bacchus Wrath as part of his goal to exterminate all Machine Beasts that show human emotion.
Legacy[]
Despite the experiments, Bara Cactus 1 and 2 weren't the last members of the Baranoia to show emotion. Eventually, Bacchus Wrath scraped many of them as he feared that they would overthrow him which led to the formation of the vengeful Bara Revenger. Not long after the death of the Bara Cacti, Bacchus Wrath and his family also began showing more positive emotions which ultimately led to the redemption of Empress Hysteria at the end of thier war with Earth.
After their first encounter with Bara Faucet, the Ohrangers review footage of past Machine Beasts to discover he was once Faucetchuck with Bara Cactus 1 and 2 being amongst those featured.
Personality[]
Bara Cactus 1 is the first Machine Beast capable of speech and proves to be a deeply sadistic and cruel creature although he deeply loves his brother and will do anything to protect him although this takes him a while to realise. He was initially loyal to Bacchus Wrath but then tried to murder the Emperor to avenge Bara Cactus 2 which led to his death.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: A single running punch from Bara Cactus sent Yuji flying backwards through the air and an upper-cut with Bara Cactus 2 sent him sprawling. Even whilst fighting all five Ohrangers, they were easily able to grab and throw away all of them and he knocked Shouhei away with three punches.
- Durability: Bara Cactus withstood multiple punches and a swing kick from Yuji, was shot by Yuji's King Blaster, was blasted by Bacchus Wrath's lightning, was repeatedly struck by the King Sticks as well as the Ohrangers' personal weapons and survived both the King Smasher finishers and exploding without a scratch.
- Non-Ageing: Due to being part robot, Bara Cactus 1 is unable to age.
- Skilled Fighter: Bara Cactus was able to overwhelm Yuji with his bare hands and, even when fighting four Ohrangers at once, he was easily able to fight them off. He could also easily fight off three Barlo Soldiers, even stealing one of thier spears to use against them.
- Agility: Bara Cactus dodged a kick from Momo by swerving his body to the side and was able to vault off of Bara Cactus 2's back to get a height advantage.
- Super Jumps: Using his agility, Bara Cactus can jump on Adrian's back and then vault off of it to gain extra height.
- Stamen Blasts: Bara Cactus can fire the yellow stamen from his shoulder flowers like missiles. They were capable of causing large explosions and taking down four Ohrangers with one hit.
- Mind Control Pollen: Bara Cactus can open the flowers on his shoulders and spray his enemies with yellow spores that, when inhaled, slowly turn a human into an obedient machine-person.
- Object Imitation: Bara Cactus' pollen allows the infected victims to consume various mechanical objects like keyboards and a disk drive and duplicate the device's abilities. This includes giving him the mind of a computer which allows him to pose and solve incredibly difficult Maths questions and eat a cooker to breathe fire.
- Danger Immunity: When taking on the traits of objects, the machine people become immune to danger posed by those objects such as one man who ate some very high voltage cables.
- Object Imitation: Bara Cactus' pollen allows the infected victims to consume various mechanical objects like keyboards and a disk drive and duplicate the device's abilities. This includes giving him the mind of a computer which allows him to pose and solve incredibly difficult Maths questions and eat a cooker to breathe fire.
- Burrowing: Bara Cactus can burrow underground so that only his flowers were exposed in order to surprise and spray people.
- Eye Blasts: Bara Cactus can spray blue energy blasts from his eyes that were strong enough to cause large explosions.
Arsenal[]
- Fists: Although he has no weapons of his own by default, Bara Cactus was able to easily decimate his enemies with his bare hands.
- Energy Reflection: By joining hands, Bara Cactus 1 and 2 can form a blue energy shield to reflect the Ohrangers' King Blasters' lasers right back at them.
- Energy Whips: Bara Cactus can draw his left hand from his right palm to generate a blue energy "rope" that he can use to whip his enemies. This was strong enough to knock the Star Riser out of Goro's hands.
- Spear: Whilst fighting to protect Bara Cactus 2, Bara Cactus 1 stole a Barlo Soldier's spear to defeat the other footsoldiers.
