Bara Ivy is the Ivy-themed Machine Beast of the Machine Empire Baranoia serving Emperor Bacchus Wrath that serves as a minor antagonist in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger. It is the secondary antagonist of the 18th episode and a supporting antagonist in the 33rd episode.
Biography[]
Past[]
As with all members of the Machine Empire Baranoia, Bara Ivy was originally built by Emperor Bacchus Wrath and Empress Hysteria some 65 million years ago on Planet Baranoia. Uniquely, Bara Ivy was built with the ability to merge with its allies and completely empower them. Along with the rest of the Machine Beasts and the Barlo Soldiers, Bara Ivy helped them to devastate and conquer multiple planets; fusing with various beings and using them to devastate entire worlds.
Ohranger[]
Millions of years later, in 1999, Bacchus Wrath and his Empire return to Earth and launch an invasion of Earth but the Ohrangers arise to oppose them.
Following the death of Bara Vacuum and the failure of the Power Brace theft plot, Seiichi Kuroda approaches Bacchus Wrath and asks to be given another chance and the power of a real robot to finally kill the Ohrangers. Although Bacchus Wrath initially laughs off the idea of a human joining them and orders Kuroda to be killed, the mad scientist convinces the Emperor through his conviction and revealing he is fueled by his anger and hatred so Bacchus Wrath decides he can at least enjoy himself as well as experiment to see the full potential of machine enhanced humans so summons Bara Ivy. The powerful Machine Beast merges with Kuroda to give him a powerful machine-like armour leaving only his face exposed to implement his plan. Post-upgrade, Kuroda sends Bara Ivy's tentacles up through Rindo Lake Park where they ambush and take captive Shouhei and Momo before taking Juri when the other Ohrangers investigate as well as controlling Shigeru to attack Goro and Yuji. When the two remaining Ohrangers track the tentacles to a mountain, they find their friends tied up and Kuroda's enhanced form with Shigeru having been merged into it with Kuroda quickly being able to knock around Goro and Yuji.
When the Ohrangers appeal to Shigeru though, Bara Ivy tears free of Seiichi Kuroda and mortally wounds him for his failure. A dying Kuroda cries out for the Ohrangers to save Shigeru before collapsing as the cave caves in, crushing him to death. The Ohrangers escape with Shigeru but Bara Ivy does as well, smacking down Goro and Yuji and summoning Barlo Soldiers to assist it so the Ohrangers morph. After quickly dispatching the Barlo Soldiers, they are smacked down by Bara Ivy's tentacles and blasted but the tentacles are severed by Goro with the Star Riser and the Machine Beast is knocked out by the Chouriki Riser Attack immediately followed by the Big Bang Buster. Enlarged by Acha and Kocha, Bara Ivy quickly gains the upper-hand before burrowing underground and smacking the Giant Robo down. When it emerges to finish Ohranger Robo though, Bara Ivy is crippled with a slash from the Super Crown Sword and killed by the Crown Final Crash.
After the death of Bara Faucet, Emperor Bacchus Wrath executes his ultimate plan; recreating an army of past Machine Beasts (including Bara Ivy) as giants and upgrading them with the Magma Enhancement Program. However, the Ohrangers ultimately penetrate the cave system where the upgrades are taking place and destroy most of the monsters by collapsing the cave on top of them with Bara Ivy being among them.
Personality[]
Bara Ivy is an extremely brutalistic and violent Machine Beast completely loyal to Bacchus Wrath and the Baranoians. Although dead loyal and willing to betray Seiichi Kuroda when he outlived his usefulness, Bara Ivy is a completely mute monster incapable of making any noise.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: Bara Ivy is extremely strong, smacking down the Ohrangers with swings of its tentacles and knocking Ohranger Robo around with a series of punches and kicks. After burrowing, the Machine Beast knocked Ohranger Robo down with a single smack to the foot.
- Durability: Bara Ivy survived an energy blast from Kuroda and being slashed by both the Chouriki Riser's special attack as well as the Super Crown Sword without major injury.
- Expert Fighter: Bara Ivy managed to overwhelm all five main Ohrangers and Ohranger Robo with its bare hands.
- Super Jumps: Bara Ivy can jump extremely high, leaping from the depths of a collapsing cave up to the surface with a single bound.
- Empowerment: Bara Ivy can merge with and empower humans at will, as seen with Seiichi Kuroda. Even after the Machine Beast abandoned him, Kuroda maintained his mechanical look until his death.
- Robot Absorption: Whilst fused with Bara Ivy, Kuroda can absorb other robots into himself at will as seen with Shigeru who he fused into the large growth on his stomach.
- Energy Balls: Bara Ivy can fire pink balls from its face which are powerful enough to mortally wound Kuroda after multiple hits and even collapse their cave hideout.
- Energy Spit: Bara Ivy can project a spatter of blood red energy from its mouth at will capable of mortally wounding Kuroda with two hits.
- Barlo Soldier Summoning: Bara Ivy can summon Barlo Soldiers to aid it in battle.
- Energy Stream: Bara Ivy can fire a devastating blue energy stream from its mouth that is powerful enough to cause large explosions and knock down all five Ohrangers with a single hit.
- Burrowing: Bara Ivy can leap with so much force that it burrowed underground to unleash underground attacks.

- Fists: Bara Ivy has no weapons of its own but is immensely strong and can deliver powerful smacks with its arms.
- Tentacles: Bara Ivy has massive golden tentacle-like vines on the backs of its wrists that it can use to smack down its enemies.
Trivia[]
- Bara Ivy's suit is the only villain costume in Ohranger to be adapted multiple times into Power Rangers Zeo and it is the only monster in Super Sentai history to be adapted in three different ways.
- Bara Ivy is the final Machine Beast destroyed by Ohranger Robo.
